What's included
Group experience
US Grade 4 - 7
This interactive group is a fun opportunity to engage with fellow insect-lovers (and all arthropods really). Do you like to read articles, stories or watch documentaries about insects? Do you like to observe, study and/ or write about insects around you? Do you want to learn how to collect, preserve and/ or correctly identify arthropods? Perhaps you like to keep some as pets or even food for other animals? Or maybe you don't like insects at all but you're open to understanding them more (from a safe distance)? Perhaps your interested in understanding how they fit in the environment or even sustainability? Or you may want to know which ones are beneficial and which are more harmful/ dangerous? Are you curious to know which arthropods could be used to create culinary delights? Maybe you're more interested in the funny or creepy side of arthropods, such as zombies or if we can smell an insect farting? Let's get together and discuss these questions and more in The Hive! All are welcome! As a moderator I will post engaging topics throughout the week, respond and welcome each member personally, while moderating the comments, questions and posts daily to ensure adherence to the established rules of conduct. The Hive will provide a fun and relaxed environment where all Hive members can feel confident to share, participate and ask questions. Monthly Hive contests (for example: a photo contest or create your own insects out of items that start with 'P'!) will give members a chance at some friendly competition and share photos, artwork, stories and more. Content examples will include, photos, insect wars - who would win?, videos, journal/blog articles, would you rather, news stories, questions, quizzes, nominations and votes for "insect of the month", and interesting anecdotes or experiences. Other activities that may be included: word searches, Bingo, Scavenger hunts and more. See you in The Hive!
Learning Goals
Hive members will develop their skills in critical thinking, scientific method, and evaluating content from a scientific perspective.

Guidelines
Welcome to The Hive! We want all of our learners to feel comfortable, connected, and safe. That's why we have 3 rules we ask you to follow: Be Kind, Be Safe, and Be Respectful.
Be Kind - Help all learners feel welcome and included.
Learners from all over the world, with different backgrounds, races, ethnicities, abilities, gender identities, religions and body types, participate in our Group. Always be nice and make others, especially new learners, know that they belong and are welcome. Teasing, name calling, or bullying anybody in our community? Nope. Not happening here
Be Safe - Keep your personal information private and never ask other learners for theirs.
Personal things are personal. We want to keep you safe on Outschool, but we also want YOU to understand how to be safe when you're meeting other learners or teachers. Keep your full name, home address, gaming or social media name, email, and school name private.
Be Respectful - Treat others how you want to be treated.
Keep language clean and information you share safe. If you wouldn't say it or share with your grandma, don't do it here. Swear words, racy videos, and violent images are not allowed. Treat Outschool like a public place, and when in doubt, keep things covered.
Be Considerate - Not everyone is comfortable with the same things.
Keep content that may be graphic such as predation or injured animals in the comments with a warning such as "WARNING graphic content in the comments".

Hello! I offer learners the opportunity to dig deep into the fields of entomology, greenhouse growing, and academic writing.
I have a bachelors in Biological Sciences and a diploma in Greenhouse Technology. I have been teaching for over 5 years and I have experience both in the classroom and online. I’m a former college Entomology instructor, turned homeschool mother, cookie decorator, online ESL teacher and academic writing tutor. I have a passion for quality, meaningful learning that I bring to any age group or intellectual level.
I believe teaching should be fun, engaging and interactive. I stand by the idea that students learn best in an environment that allows them the freedom to explore, be creative and think critically.
Personally, I enjoy hiking, reading, and baking artistic treats. I also run a small cookie business.
You will find my personality, experiences and interests sprinkled into each lesson as I strive to relate and stay relevant to students. I look forward to welcoming you into my classroom.
