What's included

Group experience

From early steam locomotives to cross country freight to cutting edge high speed trains, no matter where your interest lies this group is designed as a place for students who love all things TRAINS to meet and hang out with other rail-fans from all over the world! Anything and everything railroad related is welcome!

As moderator, I will check in frequently each week to join in the conversation, guide topics, and issue conversation starters and special activities that students can choose to participate in based on their interest... Special activities may be things like railroad themed scavenger hunts, art projects, and photography challenges - I may even take students on virtual "field trips" to rail-fan with me to visit places of railroad themed interest!

So come join me and let's talk about how railroads shaped history and helped develop industry in countries around the world!

Share your rail-fanning videos and photos and get pointers for setting up and catching great shots.
Talk about your favorite Thomas episodes (or the ones you can't stand!) and the real trains that inspired the children's series characters!
Show off your model train layouts, create wish-lists, give reviews, and show restoration of vintage pieces and personalization progress.
Take each other on virtual "field trips" as you visit favorite spots to watch trains, museums, and local railway sites.
Use your creativity to make and share your own paper models and plastic brick creations.
Talk about the latest simulators and other train related gaming.
Help us create a list of movies with train content.
The possibilities are only limited by student interest and involvement!

I'm also familiar with various Railroad themed badges awarded by youth clubs and students who are working on them may use this group to gain information and fulfill requirements.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I spent 11 years working for a historic railroad, where I was the director of one of the few railroad-themed summer camps in the United States. In the off-season from camp I stayed busy offering tours, shop experiences, and planning special events and educational programs to help young railfans grow in skills related to their interest in trains... from hands-on experience restoring these amazing machines, to small-scale models, as well as the history of the people who's lives were shaped by the railroad industry.
