What's included

Group experience

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is always changing and providing new, interesting content. This is a social space to enjoy that content with fellow fans. We will discuss all sorts of topics in the MCU from the previous movies, plus the Disney+ TV shows. Come theorize what might happen next in the MCU!

Each week there will be at least one new post from the teacher. These posts could range from general trivia, critical thinking exercises, theory discussion, and more. We will discuss things from the entire MCU catalog, as well as all the new content arriving soon. Things happen quickly in the MCU, so posts may happen frequently as new information, trailers, casting, or theories drop. Students are also encouraged to make frequent posts about their favorite topics of discussion.

This space is meant to be welcoming and engaging for everyone. Every participant will have opportunities to share their interests and engage in discussion. Come show us your favorite Marvel drawings, action figures, or just discuss your favorite superhero. All topics of conversation are welcome here, as long as every post and interaction is respectful.

This social space is moderated by the teacher. Posts will be made frequently by the teacher to encourage participation, but learners are all encouraged to make their own posts about questions, theories, or any topic they would like to discuss. This Group is a wonderful supplement to my live MCU courses offered on Outschool. Students can engage on their own time in this social space, and we may bring these topics to the live class meetings to discuss them further.

Guidelines
Welcome to MCU Assemble! *New students, please make an introduction post with your name and the movie/show you are most looking forward to this year.* We want all of our learners to feel comfortable, connected, and safe. That's why we have 3 rules we ask you to follow: Be Kind, Be Safe, and Be Respectful. Be Kind - Help all learners feel welcome and included. Learners from all over the world, with different backgrounds, races, ethnicities, abilities, gender identities, religions and body types, participate in our Group. Always be nice and make others, especially new learners, know that they belong and are welcome. Teasing, name calling, or bullying anybody in our community? Nope. Not happening here Be Safe - Keep your personal information private and never ask other learners for theirs. Personal things are personal. We want to keep you safe on Outschool, but we also want YOU to understand how to be safe when you're meeting other learners or teachers. Keep your full name, home address, gaming or social media name, email, and school name private. Be Respectful - Treat others how you want to be treated. Keep language clean and information you share safe. If you wouldn't say it or share with your grandma, don't do it here. Swear words, racy videos, and violent images are not allowed. Treat Outschool like a public place, and when in doubt, keep things covered.

Master's Degree in Science from Saint Mary's University
Hello, Outschoolers!

My name is John and I have been a scientist and educator for over 15 years. I hold a Bachelor of Science (Honors in Biology), Master of Applied Sciences, and a Ph.D. in biology. Over my BSc, MSc and PhD I have designed and delivered courses for students aged 3 to 63 for class sizes ranging from one-on-one lessons to classrooms of over 300 students.

I have professionally taught subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Astronomy, and Math, as well as more focused lessons such as courses in Public Speaking, Time Management, and Conversation Skills. I have worked as a scientific mentor and instructor to students in elementary school all the way to university. I hold certificates for 150-hour Teaching English as a Foreign Language and 250-hour Intensive Teaching certificates, and have participated in seminars for Grading and Giving Feedback to students. I have given scientific conference presentations to audiences of more than 700 people, and have published a number of peer-reviewed scientific articles. I also have experience coaching a variety of sports including hockey, basketball, and volleyball. I have been teaching courses online for 5 years to more than 1200 students.

I am a lifelong student and love to learn new things each day. My teaching philosophy revolves around this idea, that every student has a lot of their own to offer and I always try to relate any topic to a student's interest. You may find classes of mine that take popular culture and relate these hobbies and interests with academic concepts to help students relate to the material. My classes are often heavy in discussion (though no student is forced to speak if they do not want to) and we expand on the material in each lesson based on what students are most interested in. This often results in courses that interest me in particular and that I think can offer students a lot of value and critical thinking skills. I teach high-level academic courses, as well as conversation-based community development to foster interest in sharing things students enjoy.

Private, personalized tutoring is also available. Send me a message if interested.

I hope to see you all in class soon!

John
