What's included

Group experience

The purpose of this group is for learners to have the opportunity to socially interact with other learners that have a chronic illness and is looking for a way to make new friends. This group will allow learners to have the opportunity to talk with others, potentially make new friends, and, most importantly, have fun! All are welcome to join, and this group is designed to be inclusive for everyone. Please note that this group is not group therapy. The purpose of this group is for social interaction with peers that also have a chronic illness. This group is not about sharing your personal experiences as an individual with a chronic illness but rather making friends and connections with others that are in a similar situation.

Some of the ways that group members will be able to interact include:

Discussion Posts:
Topics for discussion will be posted periodically to spark conversations among the group. Examples of group topics of discussion may include discussing shared interests such as hobbies, favorite books, music, etc., favorite things to do, open discussion about favorite movies or video games, and much more!

The topic of the Week:
A new topic of discussion will be posted each week to allow learners to interact socially with each other. This will act as a way for learners to "break the ice" with others in the group to help make new friendships. Examples of topics of the week include: favorite books, subjects in school, favorite movies, favorite video games, favorite kinds of weather, etc.

Activities:
Weekly, there will be a variety of mini-games and activities for the learners within the group. Participation is optional but strongly encouraged. Examples of activities include the following: Digital Scavenger Hunt, Trivia, Would You Rather, Riddles, etc.

As the moderator of the group, I am excited to have learners bring new ideas to the group for fun activities to complete, topic suggestions, and fun ways to keep this group both fun and inclusive for all.

This group is a wonderful way for learners with chronic illnesses to make new friends from around the world in both a safe and fun virtual environment.
Learning Goals

As someone with a chronic illness, I know that it can be difficult to make friends. I would like to help learners make friends from around the world in a fun, safe, and inclusive virtual environment. My B.S. and M.S. are both in Psychology, and I am currently an EdD doctoral candidate studying Educational Leadership.
