Group Experience

This class is really a lot of fun because I am challenging you to think critically about the ingredients in front of you. But, it is also about being adventurous and sometimes that is not from critical thought but more from your intuition. Developing both is key to being a great Chef. In addition, I am asking you to consider each mystery ingredient's individual preparations, cook times, individual flavor profiles, textures, plating. You will be consciously and subconsciously utilizing math, physics, chemistry, scientific measurement, and should gain a vast knowledge of different types of food products as well as different cooking techniques for them. Through time, you will be able to open your refrigerator, look around at your ingredient options, and be able to put together a tasty meal consistently. You will also begin to gain confidence in the kitchen. Knowing that few ingredients will get the best of you is a great way to start building a self-esteem and presence in the kitchen. In addition, you will learn to utilize food from a scientific perspective. You must understand your basic flavors before you can elevate them, and for science we must be willing to try every individual ingredient in their natural and altered (cooked or processed) states. We will learn how to evaluate recipes, make adjustments, record our findings, etc.
