Description

Group Experience

The goal is that club members will....

➡️ Develop a good understanding of global geography.
➡️ Pick up some cool facts.
➡️ Develop a sense of awe for the amazing and diverse world that we live in.
➡️ Develop a global perpsective.

Over time, as pieces come together, members should develop a tremendous bank of knowledge in the field of social studies.

This is a true social studies club in how it is interdisciplinary. We cover geography, history, culture, religion, political structures, natural wonders and wildlife, foods. What would you want to do if you went to Rio de Janeiro or Tokyo or the Gobi Desert? These will be the things we talk about as we go to those places. Over time, the kids will be exposed to lots of different cultures, religions, political structures. They'll have a sense for where these places are in the world. They'll learn tips and clues for finding different places on a map.

Additionally, a goal with this class is to inspire a love for different places and cultures around the world and to encourage a curiosity to explore and learn about the world.

Facts are cool. However, the real value is in the perspective gained over time as students are exposed to a variety of places and cultures around the world.
Hi, I'm Clark and I teach social studies and history classes, and help introduce learners to some of the great ideas and heroes of history and some of the greatest stories ever told.

We live in a big and fascinating world and one of my goals with my classes is to help kids develop an interest and appreciation for the world around them and different cultures. My classes draw from my own experiences as a world traveler. I've visited and lived abroad in 22 countries. I'm also the former deputy director of the historic home of President Ronald Reagan and in 2010 was a candidate for United States Congress.

My style as a teacher and moderator is to make learning a great adventures. We don't just learn dates and who won elections. We delve into world history, systems of government, historic trade routes and why those have developed. What kind of money do we need when we get to a new country? What language do they speak, and why? World leaders escaping from prison and living in a pitch black mine among rats? We cover that too! And most of all we have fun.

So I love to travel and love using the idea of travel to teach history and geography and culture to kids. I also remember the way I felt as a high school student when I first read great literature and poetry for the first time, and I love sharing that experience with kids. I love being an online version of Mr. Keating from Dead Poet's Society!

My kids' friends call me the fun dad! I love taking them and all of their friends on adventures. I love to ski and have lots of opportunity to do so from our home in Lake Tahoe. I'm a cyclist, and a few years ago I rode my bike solo and unassisted 500 miles from Stockholm, Sweden to Copenhagen, Denmark. I'm also a runner and I'm training for a 100 Mile run!
