Experiencia de grupo
This American Sign Language Lounge will discuss ASL, deaf culture, and simple signing. This is here to broaden horizons and learn more about the culture and history. We will discuss different topics regarding the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities each week. We want to build a group where learners can share their experiences and ask for advice. By sharing ideas and thoughts, we hope to empower learners to help each other and realize their experiences may not be unique, and other learners can provide guidance. This will help to understand and bridge the gaps between Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Hearing communities. You are introducing yourself to the other learners in the group. We will discuss the cultural differences between the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Hearing communities. We will go over examples of communication roadblocks within a social group and family. This could include facial expressions, room lighting, and turning your back on someone. > During this pandemic, what roadblocks did you experience, and how did it affect you? > What challenges in social settings have you experienced as a learner, and how did you get people to understand your needs? >What is Deaf Cultural? >What are the facts and myths of Deaf Cultural? Each week, the learners will be asked to post and comment on other learners' posts regarding our class discussion. In addition, it will be encouraged if a learner experiences an event or problem during the week they would like to share and ask for suggestions from the group. This group is for anyone who is wanted to learn more about the deaf and hard-of-hearing culture. This will not be an average ASL class where I will teach signs weekly; I want to facilitate meaningful discussions and show how learners can expand their knowledge. However, I will include some primary characters to help with communication. As a teacher, moderator, and parent of an adult who is Hard of Hearing, I will share my passion for working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing children as an individual who has spent over 11 years working with and supporting the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community as well as my experiences as a parent. Disclaimer: In this group, we will not share locations, social media handles, addresses, etc. Please only use the name that you have listed on Outschool's platform. This is a privacy violation and concern. Join why I'm so passionate about Deaf Culture!

I have been teaching American Sign Language for over 15 years now. I worked in the Deaf community for ten plus years when I helped develop classes for infants to adults. I teach a music and movement program in my local area and teach American Sign at different Preschools in my local area. I have an Associate in Early Childhood and American Sign Language. I work with Preschool and up! We use signs to communicate with my daughter, who is Hard of Hearing. Love spending time with my family and all of my animals! (6 cats and one puppy I have five grand cats, grand bunny, grand beardie, and grand dog) My teaching style is respect and having fun while learning.
