Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Beginner - Advanced Level
Feeling nervous or anxious about your upcoming lessons or performances? Cramming the night before for your lesson? Finding your practice sessions are getting dull?

Or

Are you preparing to meet your long term goals like getting into a competitive performing ensemble, state ensemble performances, talent search or college auditions?

In this class, the learner will participate in establishing a customized practice and reflection journal. This journal can serve as a documentation of work for homeschool learners.

In this 1-on-1 class, the learner will:
     1. Set goals in music performance
     2. Use a strategic planning format
     3. Apply the language of music
     4. Design impactful practice sessions

This class offers pre-work that begins with a guide through a set of reflective questions and profile build called "My Musician Profile"." It is recommended this is submitted to the teacher in advance of the start of class, though not required.

While each session will be tailored to the needs of the student, class times will follow this basic format:

     1. Review of "My Musician Profile" - 15 minutes
     2. Smart goal planning - 10 minutes
     3. Long range planner / Action planning tools - 15 minutes
     4. Daily focus tracker & reflection sheet - 15 minutes
     5. Questions and recap - 5 minutes

The tools incorporate multiple disciplines that develop the whole musician in preparation for successful performance outcomes of managing 3 areas of performance discipline:

     1. Physical (managing the setting)
     2. Mental preparation (use our music experience to develop confidence)
     3. Emotional management of performing (excitement and anticipation, accepting praise and feedback, managing the performance setting)

These tools have been compiled into 1 interactive journal ready for use at your fingertips in print or digital formats. I am excited to see you in class!

For nearly 20 years, I taught private music lessons guiding thousands of learners across a variety of disciplines. In general, I found many people were cramming their practice the night before. Subsequently, they felt the pressure of performing or were running short on goal achievement. Wanting to offer more experience in the joy of performing music, I started to teach people how to practice; and because I teach by breaking down large concepts into small steps, my learners found greater progress. Later in life, I found these musical skills to be lucrative in other areas of my career and personal life.
