  • Students will learn basic seated, standing and reclined Yoga poses through stories.
I am a Registered Yoga Teacher and certified Children's Yoga Instructor. I have 22 years experience as a Yoga practitioner and 7 years experience as a Children's Yoga Instructor for ages 3 and up. I'm also an Early Childhood Educator with a Master's in Innovative Early Childhood Education, specializing in the Reggio Approach.
Comfortable, zoom-appropriate clothes, no socks and a safe spot to move around (make sure you have enough space to lie down with arms and legs out, choose a spot that doesn't have toys or things that could trip you.). A Yoga mat is great, but not required. I don't recommend using towels or blankets in place of a Yoga mat, as those can cause students to trip or slip.
Los estudiantes no necesitarán utilizar ninguna aplicación o sitio web más allá de las herramientas estándar de Outschool.
Please provide an open workout space free of any items that could potentially trip or cause the learner to slip. Slip-proof socks or bare feet, a water bottle, and comfortable clothing are suggested for this class (keep in mind we'll be doing some inverted poses, so tucking in or knotting loose-fitting shirts is recommended). While I will be providing instruction in poses that are suitable for beginner students, adult supervision is still recommended.

Please keep in mind that a children's Yoga class is different from (most!) adult's Yoga classes. It is developmentally appropriate for children to move around in their own way during a children's Yoga class; this may look like jumping up and down with excitement during a story, or adding a little "dance" to a pose that is typically done without movement. Children (until at least age 8!) are hard-wired for movement and use it as a way to process the information they are receiving as well as the emotions they are feeling. So, while it may look like a child is not "doing Yoga" if they are moving around when I'm sharing a pose or a story, they are still getting the benefits of experiencing a Yoga class and integrating that into their understanding of the practice. The phenomena of deferred imitation also comes into play quite often in children's Yoga classes (i.e. a child may appear to not be "doing all the poses" during class, but then will later demonstrate an ability to do the poses on their own at a later time).
