Class Experience What happened on the west coast of France 77 years ago? Where and when were D-Day? What does D-Day even mean? Who was involved? Learn about the preparation and reason for the Allied Forces invasion of the French coast during World War II. What obstacles did the forces have to plan for, what worked and what failed on this, the longest of days? Join me as I tell about the events that unfolded along a 50 mile stretch of beach and cliffs 4, 583 miles/7,377 km away from the USA. I have visited these beaches several times in the last ten years. I have met with British and American veterans that stormed these beach heads. I have heard the stories of the French families who were present on the day of their liberation from occupation. I use slides to provide images that tell the story of the longest day. I encourage students to ask questions throughout the class. We will name the American beaches and examine why these beaches were chosen. Which units landed on these beaches? What do they look like now? We will look at the outcome of the battles at each of the two beaches. We will learn about how the landscape had an effect on the landing and invasions. This class is created for the learners- I will gladly focus on their interests.

Orientación para padres
This class is about WWII and a land, sea, air invasion that cost the lives of soldiers and civilians. The class does not go into detail about the deaths, but it can be a topic of discussion. I teach my students that all lives have value, we do not cheer for death.

I was head social studies teacher at my school for 15 years. I believe the fact that I have not only studied WWII in-depth, but have walked these beaches with veterans who fought there allows me to bring stories to life so that students will understand the invasion from both a military aspect and that of the individual.
