In this class, we will be exploring different genres of writing for the most reluctant of authors! Every child is an author in some way and the aim of this class is to bring that out! One essential part of this class is me modeling my own piece of writing, including the think aloud process from the planning to the publishing. We will be working with smaller pieces of writing to develop writing stamina and enjoyment. There will be many opportunities for us to look at strengths and weakness in the writing that is produced through whole class, peer, and teacher to student conferences. Students will be doing a mixture of paper/ pencil and typing via Google Classroom. This is done to incorporate technology skills and also to keep practicing penmanship skills. Each week of class will focus on completing 1-2 writing pieces using the writing process. March Week 1: Informational Writing Week 2: Fictional Narrative Writing Week 3: Poetry - Acrostics April Week 1: Personal Narrative Writing Week 2: Realistic Fiction Writing Week 3: Poetry - Haikus May Week 1: Technical Writing Week 2: Fantasy Writing Week 3: Poetry - Lyrical June Week 1: Opinion/ Persuasive Writing Week 2: Fictional Narrative Week 3: Poetry - Limericks Students are welcome to reenroll in future sections as the writing topics within the genres will change!
