1 hour per week. There will be an optional homework set after each class. Often it will be to carry on the writing techniques that we have learned in the lesson, however, sometimes there will be bespoke homework. If students choose to do this and then upload their work to the chat or classroom, I will be more than happy to provide them with feedback.Assessment
Children will be given immediate verbal feedback throughout the lesson and parents will receive written feedback via the classroom at the end of the session.Class Experience
US Grade 3 - 6
Beginner - Advanced Level
All sections of the class have the same topic- Please see the outline below. Each week is a stand alone lesson, and the content does not build, so children can join at any point. 🌟Join me, a self- proclaimed Hogwarts expert, for an ongoing reading & writing course, perfect for Harry Potter fans! We will explore and master English skills through the lens of the magical world of J.K. Rowling. 🤝 Beginners will be guided step-by-step, advanced students challenged with targeted questions and vocabulary. ✨Each week, children will explore a different reading or writing skill and demonstrate their understanding through short, focused pieces of work, all inspired by the magical world of Harry Potter. ✨ If this is your first class on outschool, sign up using my referral code ellygb0C to get $20 off! *********************************Typical Class Routine********************************************** 🎲 Getting to know you game or activity 📖 Introduction to the topic- reading a shared text or a modelled example 🎓 Guided instruction -this is where I explain and show how to complete the activity ✍️Independent work 🗣️ Sharing work and feedback within the class. 🎮📖 Harry Potter-themed (or otherwise) show-and-tell or an online game or quiz encouraging children to share and communicate with their peers. 🕒There is always an opportunity for students to finish their work after class and submit for feedback as I wouldn’t want a student to feel rushed or pressured into sharing. *********************************Other Information************************************************* 📝 Additional content is introduced weekly, and worksheets are provided in advance. 💡 Flexible participation options are available with optional home-learning activities. 📝Small class sizes (always under 13 children) ensures a conducive environment for swift progress. 💰 Discounts are available for long-term sign-ups. *********************************Class Schedule************************************************* W/C - 2nd Sept - Magic Spells -Instructional Writing W/C - 9th Sept - Owl Post- Letter Writing W/C - 16th Sept -Hogwarts House - Creative Writing W/C - 23rd Sept - Magical Beast- Descriptive Writing W/C - 30th Sept -Magical Items Debate -Persuasive Writing W/C - 7th Oct - Balanced Arguments -Persuasive Writing W/C - 14th Oct - No lesson W/C - 21st Oct- Magical Plant - Creative Writing W/C - 28th Oct- Hogwarts Uniform - Creative Writing W/C - 4th Nov - Boggarts - Emotional Literacy W/C - 11th Nov - Castle Maps -Instructional Writing W/C - 18th Nov -Magical Sweets - Persuasive Writing W/C - 25th Nov - Potions Lesson -Creative Writing W/C - 2nd Dec - Hogwarts Report Cards - Report Writing W/C - 9th Dec- Olivanders - Creative Writing W/C - 16th Dec- Christmas at Hogwarts -Narrative Writing -Christmas Break- W/C - 7th Jan- Wands - Creative Writing W/C - 14th Jan- Diagon Alley - Creative Writing W/C - 21st Jan- Patronus Charm - Descriptive Writing W/C - 28th Jan- Mirror Of Erised - Emotional Literacy W/C - 3rd Feb- Broomstick Flying -Instructional Writing W/C - 10th Feb- Hogwarts Ghost - Descriptive Writing W/C - 17th Feb- Diary Entry - Narrative Writing W/C - 24th Feb- Dobby!- Presentational Writing W/C - 3rd March- Right and Wrong- Persuasive Writing W/C - 10th March- Weasley Family Top Trumps- Descriptive Writing W/C - 17th March- Hogwarts Teachers - C.V. For over 15 years now, I have been working as a teacher in mainstream British primary schools (with children aged 4-11). In my role, I have worked with a range of children, from those with additional needs to children whom have been classified as gifted and talented.
For 10 years, I have been the head of English at two different schools, where I have had the responsibility for driving progress and achievement. My focus as a teacher and a leader has always been to help children reach academic excellence through exciting and innovative lessons.
