Hi there! With this 3-week course students will practice the skill of sharing their own ideas as well as listening to others as we write our own storybook. Being flexible with our ideas in order to reach a common goal is at the center of collaborative work.

Canva is a design website with free as well as paid options. We will be using all the free features of canva.com to put the words and illustrations to the 10-page storybook. Students are encouraged to keep developing their book once the class is over, in the case that they'd like to make a longer book. 

As we make our way into creating an original story with illustrations, learners will explore the world of storytelling. I will serve as a guide throughout the process, and rely on the openness of each learner to craft our book together.

0 - 5 minutes: Greetings. Participants will introduce themselves.
5 - 15: Our first round of storytelling. Each participant will add a layer of information to their original greeting.
15 - 25: I explain the basics of a good story and some of Canvas basic features.
25 - 45: Time to share ideas and agree on our story. (Each student is welcome to make changes to their story)
45 - 50: We have our first draft and agree to give it a final revision next week.

The second class will be where we begin to illustrate together and share our interpretations and drawings of the original story (using the tools available on Canva). Learners are not expected to finish every single detail, but they are encouraged to have a rough draft of each page. 

For our third and final class, students will share their storybooks and we'll put the finishing touches on exporting our book to a printable setting.

Metas de aprendizaje

Students will learn the basics of storytelling (Ex: premise, conflict, resolution). They will be put in an environment where their ideas and feedback are absolutely crucial to the teamwork experience. Listening to others, communicating effectively, and being flexible with their ideas are going to provide each student with an understanding of collaboration.

- A computer on which they can access canva.com
- Pen and paper in case they want to jot down ideas.

I've done many books in my in-person classrooms. It tends to be one of the most rewarding activities. Learners get to know eachother, they appreciate other peoples ideas, and get to see how small parts make up a whole. My approach to this is very conversational. Everyone is encouraged to have fun with their words! We take turns and hold space while the other person is expressing themselves. We all have amazing stories to tell.
