I believe giving students interesting topics to write about allows them to have fun writing! Although I list out prompts, and encourage students to use the given prompt for that week, I allow some freedom for students to write about something they can connect with on a given week (as long as it is related to the topic somehow). I believe writing gets better and easier with practice, practice, practice!
I have a journalism degree and have been teaching writing and grammar for 15+ years in my homeschool and online.
