Are you ready to become a creative writer and dive into the past through storytelling? In this interactive class, students will learn how to craft historical fiction by combining facts with imagination to create engaging and authentic stories. Through fun activities and guided instruction, students will: Understand the essentials of historical fiction, including how to blend real historical events with fictional characters and plots. Learn how to research historical settings and events, using them to inspire their writing and make their stories both accurate and exciting. Develop creative writing skills, including how to create compelling characters, build immersive settings, and write engaging narratives that capture the spirit of the past. Practice writing historical fiction by choosing a time period and writing short stories that bring history to life, using both real facts and imaginative storytelling. Experience the "I do, We do, You do" teaching model, where students first see the process demonstrated, then practice together, and finally apply what they've learned independently. Access optional practice activities designed to reinforce the skills they've gained, encouraging further exploration of historical events and creative storytelling. By the end of this course, students will be confident in their ability to write historical fiction that is both imaginative and historically grounded. Whether for school assignments, personal projects, or just for fun, this class will provide students with the tools to communicate creatively and thoughtfully through writing. This class is open-ended, which allows students to work at their own pace and ability. It is made to be a great class for any student.
Orientación para padres
Along with research, can come a surplus of information that could be troubling to some students. I will personally steer away from suggesting students research potentially difficult-to-understand times for their stories. However, the "You do" version of the class will allow students to have complete creative freedom with a historical fiction story. Please be aware that students may be exposed to historical events that may be troubling. Consider having an open conversation about the timing they choose if you find it to be troubling.
