Nivel Beginner - Advanced
In this SMALL ongoing class, students will grow into writers! We will begin class by learning (or reviewing if they already know) about nouns, verbs, and adjectives. We will use this grammar to write or think of how to extend sentences to make it "juicy." Ex: The dog ran. >>> The fluffy dog ran fast because he didn't want to give up his bone. Next, our weekly lesson will be taught. This will include things like: -Choosing and topic or writing about assigned topic -Creating a hook -Establishing literary elements (character, plot, setting, etc.) -Writing and introduction -Writing a body -Writing a closing -Using onomatopoeia and other literary devices (These will not be taught in depth due to age appropriateness, but I will teach what I think the students can understand.) -Using illustrations to support your writing -Narrative, Informative, and Opinion writing -Etc. (see class schedule) ***This class is ongoing. Students can join at any time. It is not expected for students to do all of these elements in one assignment. Each week we will be talking about a certain topic. Students who join from the beginning will be able to put the skills together, but it's not necessary to join at the beginning. Seldom will we carry over on writing a story from one class to another. New joiners will usually be able to jump in and write something during class. Finally, we will practice the skills in a short writing assignment. Depending on the topic and day, I will either assign a topic or let students choose what they will write about. I will assist students as needed during this time. Students may not finish the final writing during class, but are encouraged to continue working on it after class. Of course, finishing outside of class is always optional and never mandatory. **Please note that this class is NOT for learning how to write a sentence. Students coming to this class should have a decent foundation of simple sentence structure. (Capital letter, spaces, punctuation.) We may review spelling if the student needs, but overall this class will be for the students who may already know how to spell phonetically. -If the above skills are some that your student needs to work on, please see my class before this one titled "Sentence Writing for Advanced Beginning Writers Using the Science of Reading" Our writing schedule will be as follows: 1.
