There is a definite correlation between student success and practicing what they learn at home. It would be great if parents could incorporate their new vocabulary words into conversation throughout the weeks to help cement those words into their permanent vocabulary knowledge.
Evaluación
As a teacher in the classroom previously and having taught over 25,000 classes online now, I am used to continually "informally assessing" students as we go along, and providing additional help and clarification when needed. A lot of this assessment is done when asking questions before and after the story, or when going over the vocabulary.

Worldly Wise 3000 is a popular systematic, sequential vocabulary development program for grades K-12.

In Book 1, there are 15 lessons divided into 5 units. Each of the 15 lessons introduces your child to 10 new vocabulary words for a total of 150 words. For the summer program, we will be doing five words every day. The vocabulary words in each lesson are as follows:

Week of July 10th-13th: Lesson 1 (Mon/Tues)-leap, swamp, trunk, capital, monument, steep, load, globe, coast, nation.
Lesson 2 (Wed/Thurs)-peak, liquid, shallow, dip, compass, clear, flash, paddle, swift, wild.

Week of July 17th-20th: Lesson 3 (Mon/Tues)-desert, bend, stump, temperature, dusk, enormous, decay, volcano, skeleton, prehistoric.
Lesson 4 (Wed/Thurs)-thick, utensils, solid, separate, uneven, close, flaky, shape, boil, sprinkle.

Week of July 24th-27th: Lesson 5 (Mon/Tues)-sway, property, arrange, rusty, attach, design, stormy, batteries, section, raise.
Lesson 6 (Wed/Thurs)-meet, cranky, train, injured, hatch, reverse, exhibit, misty, tropical, surface.

Week of July 31st-Aug 3rd: Lesson 7 (Mon/Tues)-cross, wagon, weave, fancy, tame, lively, chore, pile, ripe, hollow.
Lesson 8 (Wed/Thurs)-perform, fan, bashful, costume, modern, switch, ancient, action, entire, whirl.

Week of Aug 7th-10th: Lesson 9 (Mon/Tues)-level, funnel, lean, object, reflect, fair, splendid, stake, remain, rapid.

Lesson 12 (Wed/Thurs)-chart, button, view, land, tearful, whole, astronaut, dim, scale, tilt.

Week of Aug 21st-24th: Lesson 13 (Mon/Tues)-awkward, tide, construct, tower, drop, bold, divide, equal, length, receive.
Lesson 14 (Wed/Thurs)-simple, rude, wind, sob, damaged, meadow, atmosphere, crash, search, clever.

Week of Aug 28th-31st: Lesson 15 (Mon/Tues)-month, mural, imitate, applause, photograph, grow, rise, mature, memory, artistic.
Wed/Thurs: We will be doing some review activities/games......and having fun!

In each day of the four-day week, students will be introduced to five vocabulary words, using class discussion, and colorful concept and picture slides to help with understanding. They will be using them in sentences to check for understanding. Then, we’ll move on to a story that contains those words in the text.

There will be comprehension questions, as well, after the story to help assess them for understanding and I will be encouraging the use of the new vocabulary words in their answers. There are also related activities in their books that they will do after the story.

The stories are meant to be read twice, for example, one story for Mon/Tues (10 words total) and another for Wed/Thurs (10 words total) so they will have the chance to review and expand on what they learned the first day, on the second day.....and the third day, on the fourth day.
Metas de aprendizaje
The learning goal for this class is that students will learn, understand, and remember the majority of the 150 words they will be learning so that they will be more successful in their understanding of written/oral text and conversationally. That understanding also gives them a bigger vocabulary base as they go on to write their own stories, and study academic content at higher levels, as well.

I'm a certified K-8th teacher with decades of experience teaching children, most often in K-3rd grades. I have subbed all grades, though, from Preschool-12th grade and have regularly taught ages 3-18, online, for over 5 years now, in multiple subjects. I was also a director of a daycare center before going back to school to do a Master's in Teaching Program (Summa Cum Laude). I have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration: Accounting.......and I even went to law school! Teaching is my passion, though!
