How might the verbal and physical abuse at the paws of Kestrel effect the group? Does someone's outside appearance matter? What are the different dragons' courage style? Visitors, citizens and historians of Pyrrhia and Pantala are all invited to explore the characters from the three arcs of Tui T. Sutherland's best- selling series with quotes, songs, conversations and trivia. As a camp, students will spend five-days exploring that week's theme beginning with quotes related to the character followed by a related song (youtube) and Kahoot! quiz (students are not obligated to play online to participate) where poll questions pauses are taken for discussions and shares into the traits, personality, development and motivation of the different characters. The theme for each week is listed below along with dates: (6/3 - 6/8) The Dragnet Prophecy * Kahoot! questions are just on the events and characters presented in this arc. Day 1 - Clay Day 2 - Tsunami Day 3 - Glory Day 4 - Starflight Day 5 - Sunny (6/9- 6/15) The Jade Mountain Prophecy * Kahoot! questions are just on the events and characters presented in this arc. Day 1 - Moon Day 2 - Winter Day 3 - Peril Day 4 - Turtle Day 5 - Qibli (6/16 - 6/22) The Lost Continent Prophecy * Kahoot! questions are just on the events and characters presented in this arc. Day 1 - Blue Day 2 - Cricket Day 3 - Sundew Day 4 - Snowfall Day 5 - Luna (6/23 - 6/29) Favorite and Questionable Couples * Kahoot! questions are based on events and characters presented in all three arcs as well as The Winglets and Legends books. Day 1: Blue X Cricket Day 2: Sundew X Willow Day 3: Deathbringer X Glory Day 4: Qibli x Moonwatcher Day 5: Kinkajou x Turtle (7/14 - 7/20) The World of Wings of Fire * Kahoot! questions are based on events and characters presented in all three arcs as well as The Winglets and Legends books. Day 1: Animus Enchantments Day 2: Pets, Plants, Insects. Blobs and Scavengers Day 3: History and Geography of Pyrrhia Day 4: History and Geography of Pantala Day 5: Wings of Fire Trivia * Kahoot! questions are based on events and characters presented in all three arcs as well as The Winglets and Legends books. ** Students are not obligated to play online Kahoot! to participate; it is suggested though not required that learners wishing to so have a second device. *** Please note that Day 2: Sundew X Willow of Favorite and Questionable (6/25 - 7/1) are two female dragons engaged in a relationship and are considered to be LBGTQ+ characters.

Hello! My name is Janie. I am a graduate of Charleston Southern University with a Bachelors in Elementary Education and History, and was certificated in Elementary, Early Childhood, and Early Childhood Special Education. As a member of Learning for Justice, I am up-to-date on current issues and best teaching practices in order to align my classroom to inform accurate details in a fun learning environment where children and youth feel respected, valued and welcome participants. In my 15-year career, I have worked with children aged one to ten. I believe that children do not care what you know until they know that you care, and that real learning occurs somewhere between laughter, smiles and mess.
The goal in my sessions is to engage students in topics of their interest through discussion, storytelling, and creativity to encourage authentic learning of the material and an appreciation of others. Questions and comments as well as topic-related pictures, items, and other creative means are always welcome.
