Hello! My name is Teacher Monica. Welcome to my classroom!
I offer more than 10 years of alternative education experience, both in the classroom, at camp and in the garden! I find my education home in social justice and garden/environmental education, but also have a love for teaching alternative subjects such as women's history, creative writing, and health and wellness. Its my mission as an educator to highlight important subjects that are too often neglected or brushed to the margins.
Some of my passions include growing food, exploring the natural world, social justice, dance, visual art and personal development and mindfulness practices.
I believe our role as educators is to foster the unique interests and creatively of each of our students, while empowering them to be responsible Stewards of our environment, themselves and each other.
I love teaching because I love learning and I love kids! They have a natural wonder and curiosity. I enjoy helping them marvel at the world around them, in hopes that they too can be life-long learners and critical thinkers.
Not only am I not afraid to be silly, but I also strive to create a classroom environment that is engaging, interactive and encourages my students to reflect on their place and role in the world.
I am committed to transforming more students into solutionaries… a person who is able to identify inhumane and unsustainable systems and then develop solutions that are healthy and just, for people, animals and the environment.
