Access to a free CPR course will also be included. Course logistics: This course will follow a “flexible schedule” and has NO LIVE MEETINGS. This format works well since students live across many different time zones. This flexible schedule allows students to work at any time for the duration of the four week course. The teacher can always be reached via email and through the Outschool classroom. Every Monday, the class presentation will be uploaded to the classroom in .pdf format. This class presentation is NOT a video that students will sit and watch. Students will download the class presentation each week and read thru it at their own pace. The class presentation does include video links that will enhance their learning on the class topic. Every Thursday, an assignment will be uploaded to coincide with that week's class presentation. Although students are not required to turn these in, they may share their assignments at the end of every week by uploading them using the Teacher tab. Feedback will be provided on all assignments that are turned in. There are three separate class assignments - - students will have one extra week to finish up their assignments and submit them, if they need extra time. During the course, students will work to further develop their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and written expression skills. This course also offers a weekly online discussion in our Outschool online classroom, which allows learners to interact with one another and the instructor. (The amount of interaction varies from class to class, depending on enrollment.) The forum is moderated by the instructor, and can be accessed by learners at any point throughout the course, allowing students from various time zones an opportunity to interact together. Students will be encouraged to participate and interact with the teacher and other students in the class - because of the flexible nature of the class, some Chat Discussions may last for several days, giving all time zones the opportunity to participate.

Orientación para padres
Students will be asked to demonstrate some of the things they learn in class, to ensure they can do these things safely and effectively on their own. Examples include following the steps to wrap a sprained ankle (if students have an Ace bandage at home), building a proper structure of tinder and kindling (the early steps in building a fire), building a tarp shelter (if students have a proper tarp at home), and/or demonstrating the "shadow/stick method" of finding direction, etc. Students may upload photos or videos to the classroom or in private message to demonstrate their newfound knowledge.
Recursos externos
Los estudiantes no necesitarán utilizar ninguna aplicación o sitio web más allá de las herramientas estándar de Outschool.
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Having been exposed to camping and wilderness since I could walk, I have a passion for teaching others the skills for surviving in the wilderness. Considering recent acts of nature around the world, including earthquakes, hurricanes, flash floods and tsunamis, I also believe it is essential for everyone to have at least the minimal skills needed to start a fire, forage for food, find and treat water, and build a shelter. I have taught this class live to 1,000+ students, and feel that offering it as a flex class will allow even more students to learn these important survival skills.
My extensive life experience, as well as recent coursework thru Alderleaf Wilderness College give me the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to pass this important information on to your learner on a level that they can understand!
