Why do people join cults—and why do they stay? In this 4-week self-paced course, learners will explore these powerful questions through the lens of psychology. Each week introduces a major psychological theory, paired with a real-world cult case study. Learners will critically analyze how cults use manipulation, identity, and influence to attract and control followers. Using video lessons and storytelling, students will learn how to identify tactics used by high-control groups, build media literacy, and apply theory to real-life situations. This is an ideal course for teens curious about psychology, true crime, sociology, or group behavior.

This class focuses on cults. I will focus on the psychology behind cults, but I will not focus on graphic details of crimes committed by cults. For example, I may define a crime (such as homicide is where someone is killed by another person), but I will not give graphic details of the crime.
My focus is on the psychological research on cults.
