This class is a history meets literature type of class- helping learners to develop skills in multiple areas! This is a student-led, teacher supported, class discussion of the book "Where the Red Fern Grows". Given the nature of student involvement, this is most appropriate for 2+ learners, and the overall maximum number will be kept low to allow for the group to all have optimal participation and involvement and awesome experience! I suggest "roles" for learners to choose from, to help with discussion and participation. No one will be forced into doing anything they are not comfortable with doing! This will be a collaborative and positive learning space for all participants. I will use slides, interactive activities, Socratic seminar discussions, and other activities to immerse students in this era of U.S. history. Each day, we will discuss the individually assigned reading for the week, including character development, historical context, cause/effect situations and contextual cues. I will also include deeper analysis questions for learners needing more challenge. Day 1- Introduction, discussion of expectations, independent reading of chapters 1-5. Day 2- Discussion/activities about chapters 1-5, independent reading of chapters 6-10. Day 3- Discussion/activities about chapters 6-10, independent reading of chapters 11-15. Day 4- Discussion/activities about chapters 11-15, independent reading of chapters 16-20. Day 5- Discussion/activities about chapters 16-20. I'm the kind of teacher that loves participation from learners! I value the "what if' questions and light-bulb learning moments! We will have FUN while also learning (don't tell the learners, let them think they're just having fun!). This book is an amazing resource for comparing the mid-20th century with current times, and discussing changes in technology and social norms. Apologies if I tear up in the last chapter(s)! :) Depending on the number of learners enrolled, and the interest in certain things being discussed, the outline may be adjusted slightly to allow for more depth and/or student led research. Students are encouraged to ask questions, if needed. A positive class culture is a must, so I prefer learners to take turns when participating and to treat each other respectfully.

Orientación para padres
As with many social science topics, sensitive material/topics are likely to occur. As a certified and professional teacher, I will work hard to assure that all discussion/content is age appropriate. Without giving away huge details in the book, parents should be advised that there are sad elements involving death.
