This course is a personalized introduction to college for your middle schooler. As soon as a student enrolls (and assuming I have not heard from a parent that they'd like a 2nd student to enroll in the same course), the course will be closed to other enrollments, making this a one-on-one session. This allows me to cater to the student's questions and needs, meeting them where they are at in their understanding of college.

In this course, middle school students will be introduced to college. By having an understanding of what college is, knowing how one becomes a competitive applicant, and becoming familiar with common college terminology, students can make better decisions regarding their high school years. Middle school is a great time to begin to understand what exactly college is.

This course will cover:
- What is college and what can it do for me?
- What types of college/training are available after high school?
- What are some common terms used to talk about college?
- What can I do now and in high school to become a more competitive applicant?

This course includes a short discussion-based lecture, a Q & A time, and time permitting, examples utilizing public university and college websites.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students should be able to articulate what college is as well as be able to understand various essential vocabulary associated with college.

I own an independent college consulting business and hold an Independent Educational Consultant certificate. When middle school students know the basics of what college is before high school begins, they are much more aware of how high school fits into the big picture. This can help with motivation, asking good questions for their future after high school, etc.

Starting non-intensive college prep in 9th grade is ideal, and the best way to do that is to get the basics done in middle school.
