Lesson 1
Foundations and Introductions
Objectives: ◦ Get acquainted with fellow learners and establish class rules. ◦ Break the ice with fun activities. ◦ Master the Manual Alphabet for spelling and basic communication.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Fingerspelling and ASL Parameters
Objectives: ◦ Understand the nuances of double letters in fingerspelling. ◦ Learn essential rules for fingerspelling. ◦ Explore ASL parameters for accurate sign production. ◦ Utilize signing space effectively. ◦ Build vocabulary with fundamental signs.

Lesson 3
Mastering Cardinal Numbers (1-100)
Objectives: ◦ Develop fluency in expressing cardinal numbers in ASL. ◦ Practice numerical communication for various contexts. ◦ Quiz 1
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Ordinal & Nominal Numbers, Bingo, and Vocabulary Expansion
Objectives: ◦ Learn how to convey ordinal and nominal numbers in ASL. ◦ Participate in ASL Bingo for hands-on learning. ◦ Expand vocabulary with essential signs for everyday communication.

Non-Manual Markers and WH Questions
Objectives: ◦ Discover the importance of non-manual markers in ASL. ◦ Engage in exercises focusing on WH questions for effective conversation. ◦ Practice forming yes and no questions for dynamic interaction. ◦ Quiz 2

ASL Sentence Structure and Deaf Culture
Objectives: ◦ Understand the foundational structure of ASL sentences. ◦ Immerse in the rich Deaf culture with a spotlight on Alice Cogswell. ◦ Test knowledge with an interactive Kahoot/Nearpod Test for reinforcement.

ASL Sentence Structure Continued and Glossing
Objectives: ◦ Dive deeper into ASL sentence structure and learn to use non-manual markers like facial expressions effectively. ◦ Learn the basics of glossing, a vital skill for ASL learners.

Lesson 8
Exploring Deaf Culture
Objectives: ◦ Continue refining glossing skills for clear and accurate communication. ◦ Immerse in the rich Deaf culture with a spotlight on Andrew Foster.

Lesson 9
Conversational Skills and Vocabulary Expansion
Objectives: ◦ Put ASL skills into practice with engaging conversational activities. ◦ Expand vocabulary with the introduction of ◦ Quiz 3
 Week 10
Lesson 10
Integration
Objectives: ◦ Consolidate learned skills focusing on fluency and fluidity in ASL. ◦ Reinforce vocabulary and comprehension through ASL Food Bingo.

Objectives: ◦ Gain insights into Deaf culture and experiences from Teacher Joseph Keith. ◦ Engage in a lively Q&A session.

Showcasing Your Skills
Objectives: ◦ Perform a personal assessment of expressive skills. ◦ Showcase learned skills and receive valuable feedback.
Esta clase se imparte en Lenguaje de señas americano.
  • 🎯 Learners will learn and be able to recall and correctly sign basic ASL vocabulary words, including common nouns, verbs, adjectives, and everyday phrases.
  • 🎯 Learners will understand and use basic ASL grammar rules, including proper facial expressions and body language, to construct simple sentences.
  • 🎯 Learners will be able to engage in simple, basic conversations in ASL, demonstrating the ability to both understand and respond to simple questions and statements.

Detalles: Learners will have homework after every class. It is important that you do the homework because the next class builds on the material covered.

Detalles: Learners Progress will be assessed through the following: 🎯 Comprehensive Quiz: This is a comprehension quiz covering the topics that were taught. The quiz tests your ability to understand what is being signed to you. 🎯 Expressive Test: You will prepare your own autobiography using the vocabulary and grammar structures learned in class. More instruction will be given in class.will have homework after every class. It is important that you do the homework because the next class builds on the material covered.

During this 12-week class, your learner will use the app Padlet, and Signing Savvy dictionary to complete homework & practice their ASL skills. 

Signing Savvy does not require the learners to set up an account.

Signing Savvy is a free ASL dictionary. Account sign-up is not necessary for usage.

Online ASL Dictionary is required. The dictionary is a free resource. The students will need a separate device to play Kahoot. If using a computer the student will only need to be able to open another tab or split their screen.
