🔅What is 'fluency' when reading a story?
Fluency is:
✅Accuracy: The ability to decode words without making an error
✅Automaticity: The ability to read effortlessly
✅Rate: The speed maintained while reading accurately and automatically
✅Prosody: Reading in context at a smooth and even pace while having expression

➡️In this ongoing class, I will work with your learner on their reading fluency and comprehension. Good fluency is something that takes practice and repetition. 

➡️This class is *flexible to exactly what your child needs in literacy* -- whether it is learning to read in kindergarten, or if they are in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grade and needing support with fluency and/or comprehension, this class will work for them! This class is great if your child is reading below grade level. I will meet them where they are at and build from there. 

🔅Younger learners (ages 4-6) should know most or all of the sounds that the letters make before beginning this class.

💗If you would prefer I meet with your learner 2 or 3 times per week rather than 1, feel free to book additional sessions at the date and time of your choosing. Send me a message if you have any questions.

💗While every individual session will benefit your learner, good fluency is something that takes a lot of practice and repetition. Therefore, you will see progress with your learners reading skills over a series of sessions rather than a single meeting. 

📚I have a teacher subscription to Reading A to Z where I have access to thousands of digital books. A new book will be presented on my screen in each class. In some classes, 2 stories will be read. I will listen to your learner read and make corrections as needed. I will make sure your learner is reading words with those tricky spelling rules and phonics patterns correctly. I have a digital pen where I will be marking to direct the students attention or to correct errors when reading. If there are certain phonics or reading rules that your learner is missing while reading, we will pause the reading to learn how to tackle those rules to be able to read words that contain the missed rules.

In addition, I will ask your learner reading comprehension questions and completing comprehension activities  to make sure that they understand the book being read and not simply just 'reading.' 

💗Over time, your reader will be reading with more expression, less errors, and at a steady rate of a fluent reader!

📚After a few sessions with your learner when I have a good understanding at what level your child is currently reading at, I will provide a fluency assessment with them where I will record their words per minute, words CORRECT per minute, and errors which will produce their accuracy/reading rate percentage. I will then conduct this same assessment (which takes only about 2-3 minutes of the 30 minute sessions) to keep track of their progress and I will share those results with you after each session that has an assessment within it. 
**This is available for students reading at a FIRST GRADE level or higher. If I am working with a learner reading at a kindergarten level, we will begin these fluency checks once they reach my first grade curriculum. 

✏️If your learner is reading at or beyond a second grade reading level, I will give a comprehension quiz to them at the end of every book that they read. I will provide the results to you in our classroom after each session.

📝After each class, I will provide extension activities in our Outschool classroom that is specifically about the book read in class. This is *optional* work for your learner to continue to practice literacy skills after our class together. 

🚨🚨🚨🎧I kindly require that in all of my classes students wear headphones. This helps learners focus immensely. I want your learner to be able to focus easily and get the most out of every minute of our time together. In addition, it also allows me to hear pronunciation of specific sounds and words a lot clearer which is incredibly important. Thank you very much! 💙🚨🚨🚨

💗I run 2 semester classes per year, 5 months per semester. While you can subscribe and unsubscribe at any time, if you remain enrolled, I will work with your learner for 5 months with the option to enroll again for the following semester. My first semester runs from September-December and my second semester runs from January-May. 
If you are interested in subscribing but my classes are showing sold out, you can 'save' the class to subscribe when my classes for the following semester open and also keep an eye in case a learner unsubscribes and I get an open seat before the end of the current semester. Again, message me with any scheduling questions - I am always happy to accomodate where I can!

🎄💘🦃 There will be no classes on major holidays. In addition, I am a full-time classroom teacher so if there is a meeting that has to be cancelled due to my responsibilities at my public school, makeup classes will always be available.

❓❓What is included each session for the cost of $40❓❓

✅One 30-minute session that consists of personalized instruction on specifically what your child needs support with in literacy

✅Books read in each session will be provided digitally in the classroom following every session

✅A fluency check/assessment that measures your learners reading accuracy rate of the same passage over the course of six weeks. The results are always shared in our Outschool classroom immediately following every class.

✅A comprehension quiz after each book. Quizzes range from 5-10 questions and the results will be available to you after each class. 
*Comprehension quizzes are for learners at a 2nd grade reading level or higher and are reading leveled books (not decodable readers).

✅*Optional* Extension/practice activities that go along with the book(s) read in class, provided in our Outschool classroom immediately following each session. All books and the correlating activities provided are aligned to Common Core Standards used in schools nationwide (USA).

✅Personalized feedback to you regarding your learners progress and what was covered in that class, posted privately to you in our Outschool classroom immediately following each session

✅ Same day communication of any questions or concerns that you send to me in a message, 7 days a week

✅Approximately 10-15 minutes of lesson planning after every session ends, tailored to what your child needs for the following class


💲💲Refund Policy💲💲:
If you have to cancel a class within 24 hours of the class start time, I am not able to refund you since Outschool's automated system sees it as me/the teacher cancelling within that time window and not the parent, as I am the one that has to manually cancel the class meeting. This means that I have to attend each class meeting that is cancelled within 24 hours, even if there is no learner present. Thank you so much for your understanding. ♡

I will always offer makeup sessions for a session that either your learner or I have to miss (regardless of when it was cancelled) at the same cost of our regular sessions ($40). Makeup sessions are always optional.
