Do you ever wonder why we have two different pronunciations and meanings for "live"? Do you wonder why we say "cat go your tongue" or any of hundreds of other idioms? Why is our grammar so complicated!? Well that's what this class will be about. In this weekly class students we will listen to episodes of "The History of English" podcast, stopping at various points through the podcast to discuss what we have learned. Students will interact with each other on each break in the podcast and talk about the things they have learned. This class does not need to be taken from the beginning, students are welcome to come in for a week or for as long as they'd like. Class structure. 3 minutes - Introduction 10-ish minutes - Listen to the first part of the podcast 5-ish minutes - Talk about what was learned 10-ish minutes - Listen to the next part of the podcast 5-ish minutes - Talk about what was learned 10-ish minutes - Listen to the last part of the podcast 5-ish minutes - Talk about what was learned 5-10 minutes - Sum it up Weekly Structure: Before you join your first class - Episode 1 (listen to it on your own) the link will be sent to you on the welcome message for the class.
