Qué está incluido

Tarea
1 hora por semana. During the week, recognize when the exercises are needed and use them in the appropriate situations. Report their successes. Students will record themselves performing the exercises each week and will be asked to attempt to create their own mid-line exercise or share something they have done before that crosses the midline.
Evaluación
The students will report their progress throughout the weeks and I will suggest modifications if needed. They will also report their most effective brain exercise(s). The learners will create their own brain exercise during the last week of class and post a video. I will provide feedback and their creations may be demonstrated for the other learners.

Experiencia de clase

Sometimes we have trouble sitting still, focusing, recalling information, and more. Feeling unsettled can be the brain's way of telling us that we need to move, and that's a GOOD thing! It helps us to understand what our bodies need for success and development. These brain exercises can be done to prepare for school, chores, sports, and more.

I will explain the body's "midlines" using a simple diagram and have the students find those midlines for themselves so they know what they are trying to accomplish during many of our movements.

Each week's video will be posted on Sundays to prepare for a successful week. The class will learn a total of 12 brain exercises.
Throughout each week the learners will be asked to: post a recording of themselves performing the new exercises, recognize and report usage and effects, report results, try modifications I provide (if necessary), recognize other exercises that are good for the brain, and teach someone else a brain exercise. At the end of the course, they will be asked to create and record their own brain exercise. Assignments will be completed through videos, surveys, online games (kahoot), offline games (simon says), word searches, and more.

*If you have already taken my brain exercise classes, you will see one or two repeats, but the majority are not taught in my one-time classes.

Week 1: TWO midline brain exercises to activate both hemispheres and set each day for success.

Week 2: TWO hand-brain exercises for concentration that can be done while seated.

Week 3: TWO midline brain exercises for focus.

Week 4: TWO hand-brain exercises for decision-making.

Week 5: TWO brain exercises for memory.

Week 6: TWO brain exercises for alertness.

Week 7: We will review what we learned and each learner will record a brain exercise they create, or report their favorite/ most effective exercise.
A list of the exercises learned will be given in a detailed instruction sheet at the conclusion of the FLEX class.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn quick exercises that involve activating both hemispheres of the brain as well as stimulating the nerve endings in our hands that are connected to brain function. These exercises will help them prepare for a successful day and can be done upon waking and/or during class, sports, chores, etc. They will also learn how to recognize and create their own effective brain exercises.

Perfil
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary education with a minor in special education and have taught in an inclusive environment for 23 years. I have researched how to help my students and my own children to focus on tasks assigned to them. My son has ADHD inattentive type and sees a functional neurologist who has taught us various brain exercises that help my son to focus throughout the day. In addition to what he has taught us, I have attended professional development conferences, done my own research by reading books on brain balance, and learned through searching articles and videos. I am currently enrolled in a course that is further training me on the specifics of helping students with Executive Function for attention, memory, and self-regulation.

For years I have taught my 1st and 2nd graders various brain exercises to help them concentrate throughout the day. They love feeling that sense of control. I can't even count the number of times my administrators and colleagues have commented on how focused and successful my students are in class. Once we help the kids understand how the brain works, the rest starts to fall into place.
