Welcome Detectives to the City of Splendors! Please read the descriptions below and feel free to contact me if you have any questions. This On-going adventure class is for the inexperienced D&D player (1st Level) who wants to learn how to role play in the style of Sherlock Holmes, who wants to learn how to have the action hero mentality of an Indian Jones coupled with the magical potential of Hermione Granger on steroids! (steroids are bad for you, this reference was only used for comic effect). This experience will combine all the best from the above as well as famous historical crimes (e.g., Stealing of the Mona Lisa, 1911) to keep the students thinking, planning, and working cooperatively. All players will start off as 1st level members of the Waterdeep Detectives Guild and will be tasked with crimes to solve by Master Detectives Larue and Monroe. Players will choose a race and class as well as develop a rough biographical sketch prior to Session 0. Character creation will be conducted via Outschool (Zoom) but on we will play on Roll20. Students can maintain a paper copy of their character sheet, but must maintain their Roll20 character sheet between each session. We will be using all of our critical thinking and creative thinking skills to solve some of the most challenging crimes, puzzles and heists in the city of Waterdeep. Team work will be essential as all players will bring different skills and abilities to the game. At the beginning we will have some help from Waterdeep Master Detectives Laure and Monroe who have taken us on as Detective Apprentices until they are ready to retire. It will be up to us to help the Lords of Waterdeep and the City Watch keep Waterdeep safe from villains, monsters, and evil-doers. Immediate Multi-Classing: This adventure module sees a student's PC as multi-classing simultaneously and continuously from level one: for instance, the PC enters the guild as a 1st level Rogue, but would immediately start as one of the following (at FIRST LEVEL): Urban Ranger, Bounty Hunter, Detective, or Witch Hunter (see https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page for more information prior to Session 0) thus, dual classes right from the beginning!!!!!!! Another example might be a Wizard joining at 1st level, but immediately upon entering the campaign be a Witch Hunter at FIRST Level. Therefore, beginning the adventure as a Wizard - Witch Hunter, which sounds like a pretty powerful first level character with a lot of cool role playing potential! As experience points are gained they can be immediately applied to either Wizard OR Witch Hunter OR a little bit for both. This means you can have more time to learn all BOTH these classes have to offer. Considering the premise of the adventure, this immediate multi-classing potential will add a rich flavor for exploration, role playing, and problem solving - pretty exciting! SCHEDULE "Session 0" - Introduction to the Detective Guild concept, orientation to the City of Splendors, presentation of various factions and competing guilds in Waterdeep, character creation (Detective, Urban Ranger, Witch Hunter, etc.) and conversation about the 1st Level player you are bringing into the adventure. Session 1 - A trip to the Yawning Portal Session 2 - Helping Volo Session 3 - Trollskull Alley Session 4 - Fireball Session 5 - Dragon Season Session 6 - Xanathar's Lair Session 7 - The Cassalanters Session 8 - The Circus is in Town Session 9 - The Extradimensional Sanctum Session 10 - The City of the Dead The above are general adventure themes for play during the session. A new player may join after contacting me and setting up an individual "Session 0" at a time convenient for the instructor and student. After an orientation the 1st level player will be seamlessly integrated into the adventuring party as we solve crimes, chase criminals, unveil conspiracies, and make Waterdeep a safe place to live, work, and play. This IS an introductory D&D module - students will enter at 1st level and will immediately multiclass (we will take our time managing two classess as a 1st level character). This class will not be suitable for the player who has tons of experience. Extension modules will be enjoined once the first phase has been successfully completed. Some Sessions may not finish neatly at the end of a class and will (inevitably) run into the next week's class - this is to be expected, since we do not rush through our adventures! We are immersed in this world, role playing, analyzing clues and asking many, many questions. Get your sleuthing caps on and find that evidence which will solve the crime! NEW MEMBERS are welcome and will be offered a separate, private, free orientation session at a time convenient to the learner and teacher prior to the next session whereby they will be introduced to the existing party. PLEASE: We MUST meet and roll up your character before you can join a session - there is not time available during a scheduled session for character creation outside of Session 0. Extension modules will be enjoined once the first phase has been successfully completed. Some Sessions may not finish neatly at the end of a class and will (inevitably) run into the next week's class - this is to be expected, since we do not rush through our adventures! Students must have a Roll20 account (free) in order to participate in the module. This simulates/facilitates normal table top play for D&D. All video and audio will be through Outschool/zoom. During Session 0, when we create our characters will we make sure all is ready for the first session, whereby we log on to Outschool and Roll20 simultaneously and have a rowdy hour of crime busting and problem solving.

Over the past 30 years I have taught I.G.C.S.E, A-Level, I.B., and A.P. History throughout the Atlantic region in both private and public school settings. During that time I have instructed students in a variety of rigorous exam subjects . I am a strong advocate of "immersion education" (historic setting RPG) in the Social Studies classroom. My passion is Military History, which I have been enthusiastically studying my entire life. My present RPG classes involve a number of embedded lessons learned (empathy, teamwork, problem solving, decision-making, etc.) through the Three Pillars of Adventure: Exploration, Role-playing, and Fantasy Combat. My Battles & Generals classes are akin to an "On-Going, interactive discussion-based documentary" as one student put it not too long ago....and that seems about right.
