Welcome to the beginning of our creative writing adventure! This class combines the fun of a book club with the excitement of starting to write your own novel. This is the first of six classes where learners will read through the Warrior Cats series while planning, outlining, writing, and revising their own Warrior Cats-style novella. In this specific class, as learners read Into the Wild, they will learn how to build their own Warrior Cats-style world. They will create a main character, place them in a clan, create other clans, draw maps, and more! By the end of the Into the Wild class, learners will have made a world in which they can set their own Warrior Cats-style story.

On the first day of class, we will spend time getting to know each other and discuss the prologue of Into the Wild. I will also give an overview of the worldbuilding project for this class along with a preview of the entire novella project. During each following meeting, learners will share that week's worldbuilding assignment, I will explain the next stage in the worldbuilding process, and we will discuss the chapters they read for that week. After the first class, I will provide a master document via Google Docs for the learners to use as they complete their worldbuilding project. This document will be a preview of all the assignments as well as a template for completing each assignment. Every week after class I will also provide students with worksheets. These worksheets will contain questions for them to think about while reading the assigned chapters, space for them to note any new words or phrases they come across in the reading, and space to write down any questions or comments about the reading that they want to share in class. The worksheets will also contain a detailed description of that week's worldbuilding assignment as well as an example to help learners get started. For every worldbuilding assignment, I provide examples as well as offline support through Outschool's messaging system should they need any assistance. I also provide feedback on any writing assignments by request.

Here is what we will cover each week in class:
Lesson One: Prologue discussion; project overview
Lesson Two: Chapters 1-3 discussion; present worldbuilding assignment #1
Lesson Three: Chapters 4-6 discussion; present worldbuilding assignment #2
Lesson Four: Chapters 7-9 discussion; present worldbuilding assignment #3
Lesson Five: Chapters 10-12 discussion; present worldbuilding assignment #4
Lesson Six: Chapter 13-15 discussion; present worldbuilding assignment #5
Lesson Seven: Chapters 16-18 discussion; present worldbuilding assignment #6
