Students will learn literary terms and concepts as aligned with the Common Core standards for 9th -10th grade literature Students will be expected to read the novel outside of class and come to class ready to discuss and participate in doodle challenges for the novel. Class 1 Introduction to novel. Background. How to read this novel for success. HW: Read page 1 (Hearth and the Salamander) to page 32 Class 2 : What do "the rules" show us about this society? What do they say about the society Ray Bradbury was living in? HW Read page 33 to 50 Class 3 What is going on with Mildred and "the family"? What did Bradbury fear? HW: Read pages 51 to 76 Class 4 The name Faber is also the name of a famous pencil company. What do you think Professor Faber is supposed to represent? HW: Read pages 77 to 99 Class 5 What was UP with that poem? Why did he make Mrs. Bowles cry? What was the thing with the "washing machine"? HW: Read pages 100 to 120 (don't worry it is SUPER fast-paced! Lots of action!) Class 6 We are obviously in the falling action, but how far will Guy Montag fall? What is going on with that Mechanical Hound? How did Bradbury think of all of this stuff? HW: Read pages 121 to 137 Class 7 Wait! Is it over? What happened to him? HAS THIS HAPPENED BEFORE? Where did these other travelers come from? HW: Finish the book. Prepare for final class discussion Class 8 : Last class discussion and Vision Board
