In this class, we will be looking at several mysteries, disappearances, and supernatural events from the Victorian Era (1837-1901) and discussing what may have happened. Our topics for this class will include: the Eilean Mor disappearances, the Mary Celeste, the Devil’s Footprints, the lost ship in the desert, and ghost stories from period newspapers. For each mystery, we will go over the history of the event, what happened, and any necessary background information. After all that information has been presented, we will discuss the various theories and possibilities of each. Students are encouraged to converse and reach their own conclusions as to what happened based on the history provided. None of the stories will feature gory details; however, it is noted that we will be discussing elements related to true crime with the theories behind the disappearances. As well as death, as it goes along with the ghost stories. For this class, I will be presenting the information using a slideshow presentation with marked breaks for the students to discuss the details and their thoughts. Do you think that you can solve the mysteries?
