Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 11
Beginner Level
This class can be scheduled at a mutually agreed upon time, and be personalize to focus on specific areas of study/need.

The class is ideal for students who have an interest in understanding how our brains encode, store and manipulate memories, and how we can use this knowledge to make school work easier.

No prior experience is needed for this class only an interest in learning about research related to memory and how to apply the findings to education studies and testing.

Because research says students learn better when relaxed, learners will not be called on during this class. Participation is welcomed, but never demanded. Opportunities for participation are provided in the form of chat box polls.

We'll cover the basics of cognitive psychology, and the earliest experiments conducted to understand memory. We'll also discuss some more recent research on how memory works.

We'll talk about hacks, which come from the experiment results, that students can use to improve their memory and academic performance.

I have a structured, yet humor-filled teaching style, designed to keep student's interest and spark discussion. I'll use slides to reinforce concepts as well.

Learning Goals

1] Student will be able to define cognitive psychology and learn about three early experiments conducted to understand memory
2] Students will learn at least five evidenced based strategies, to use for improvement in their academic performance
