This class is a very fun and efficient way to learn about every state in the United States of America. We will learn about this amazing country's places and people. We will cover 1 state each week and fully explore its land, water, flag, fun facts, resources, and traditions. I am a very detailed teacher and I present a lot of information. I show many maps and photos on the slides. We see what animals live in each state! I include fun tips and tricks such as mnemonic devices and acronyms to remember place names, which I know can be confusing and overwhelming to children. -MIMAL states - The chef in the map - From his hat to boots - the states of Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisiana -Humor! - Funny geography jokes and maps - The state of Indiana is colored, and everything else is "Outdiana!" Ha! HOMES - The Great Lake names of Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, and Superior How to remember the 50 state capitals - Which capitals begin with the same letter as the state? - for example - Honolulu, Hawaii or Dover, Delaware What places look like objects - for example, the Lower Peninsula of Michigan looks like a mitten! I include must know facts about American history such as famous people biographies and basic explanations of the 13 colonies, wars, and westward expansion. It is so exciting when your home state is being taught that week! I frequently stop to ask for questions or to ask the learners about their experiences living in or visiting that state. I will give a study guide after each class containing all of the information we learned. Some students have liked this class so much that they completed all 50 states and then began the series again, or switched to my similarly-styled World Geography Countries class. You can join this class just once, or for a few weeks, a few months, or as a complete academic school-year long course. *************************************** We will cover the following topics and more in our quest to become young geographers - State Shape and Many Maps, both political and physical -From the most basic maps to the most detailed. -Specialty maps such as Population Density and Natural Disasters -Historical maps - What caused the map to change? When did it change? Capital Other large cities and are they bigger than the capital? What can you do when you really go there? Population Nickname Bordering States (aka neighbors!) Region State FLAGS and their meanings - colors/images --Vexillology - which is the geographic, historical, and graphic design study of flags. State Quarter State Bird - State Flower - State Tree Postal Abbreviation Year of Statehood USA Time Zones Explanation Graphs and Charts about Places, Population, Exports, and More Bodies of Water - oceans, lakes, rivers, seas, bays and more Topography and Landforms- Mountains, Volcanoes, Deserts, Islands, Beaches, and more National Parks and Other Landmarks and Travel Attractions - monuments, memorials, bridges, statues, museums, cool buildings, and more Climate and Weather Natural Disasters Possible Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Industry American History - Major Historical Facts, Famous People Biographies, and Origin of State Name Multiple Other Fun Facts About the State - like food, sports, art, music, and festivals Multiple Other Superlative Geographical Facts about the State- Is it the largest, smallest, most populated? Some of the most surprising facts I have ever learned about geography - The kids love these! I like seeing their shocked expressions! ************************************************ I include all branches of geography, history, and social studies for elementary school and middle school- including - Political geography Physical geography Cultural geography Human geography Urban geography Tourism and travel geography Economic geography Historical geography Regional geography Environmental geography Current events Geographic definitions/vocabulary/glossary words - peninsula, plateau, tributary, archipelago, delta, reservoir, and more Mapreading - plus ideas such as north, south, east, west, latitude, longitude, the equator, the poles, time zones, map key, map scale, etc. The geography of languages - also useful if your children are learning Spanish, French, Chinese, or any language! ************************************************************** 50 fifty geography maps United States USA US America travel globe US history American history USA History Study Each of the 50 States Study Each State 50 States Studies State Studies Homeschool homeschoolers Homeschooling Geography bee Geography tutoring World geography Geography club World history Social studies tutor Social studies tutoring Physical geography United Nations World trivia Geography of the world World wonders Wonders of the world United states history Usa history United states of America history Us history American history UN World maps World flags Globe Atlas of the world National geographic National geographic kids Geo Geology World Heritage Sites History Globalization Anthropology Economics Education, life expectancy, literacy, health concerns, income Environment Ecology Landforms Geography test Geography data Geography facts Geography trivia Geography games Geography records Geopolitics Online geography class for kids Online geography class for children Online geography class for students Online geography lesson for kids Online geography lesson for children Online geography lesson for students Virtual geography lesson Virtual geography class
