- Upon completion of the course, the students will: • Gain an appreciation of the richness, diversity, and contributions of the ALL of the people of the nation's foundation • Reaffirm the fact that civilization in the United States is not the result of the work and energy of one people, but is the result of the contributions of many groups. • Develop a knowledge of important people, events, and ideas that have played a key role in shaping the history and culture of the United States. • Impact of racism, sexism, and colonialism – individual and institutional – on the creation of the United States • Significant and continuous role of women, Indigenous People, and African Americans, in the American experience.
This may be a sensitive way of learning for families who are used to Eurocentric history perspective. I am certified in the following: School Counseling K-12 Special Education K-12 Elementary Education K-6 which covers social studies and was required to take classes on cultural competence, diversity, inclusion, and American History while receiving my Master's so that I could teach students of marginalized groups. Ms. Shiren who will be team teaching this course is also certified in Middle School Social Studies I have a degree connected to the topic I am teaching and additional training/education related to the topic. (My Masters is in Guidance & Counseling with classes to include cultural competence, diversity, inclusion, and American History from a Decolonized Perspective.) I have also taught our Black History from a Decolonized Perspective to over 1100 learners on Outschool and have a rating of 4.97 in that course from a majority of our students.

Frecuencia: incluidoComentario: incluidoDetalles: We have optional homework in this course. They include project based learning experiences that students can choose from each week to extend learning. Some projects will include things like cooking a traditional meal, creating a video presentation, reading a speech, or creating a model of a piece of architecture with Legos or Minecraft.
There are no required supplies for this course.
The topic of colonization, enslavement, sexism, and feminism will be discussed. The brutality and violence against oppressed people in this country may be hard for some students to process.
We will refer to the following sources: - The U.S. Constitution -Cengage's Liberty, Equality, and Freedom textbook used in California Public Schools - Teaching History with Hamilton -A Young People's Guide to American History by Howard Zinn
