Qué está incluido

7 reuniones en vivo
5 horas 50 minutos horas presenciales
Tarea
1 hora por semana. Given the flexibility of Outschool, all suggested things will be considered optional, although they are included as suggested to help all learners to dig-deeper into the content and to review, as necessary. The suggested things are described in the overview for each topic, posted at the beginning of the week. Answer keys are built in to the overview, to avoid the need for anything to be submitted- although if any learner wants to submit something to me for feedback, they certainly can! No more than 1 hour a week should be spent on the optional activities.
Evaluación
Informal formative assessment will be provided regularly, and parents will have the opportunity to request a "grade" for their learner, which will rely on an assessment over the big aspects of each topic. I am focused on the positive aspects of learning, and will encourage all learners to grow and improve from their mistakes.

Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. 5 - 8
This 7 week class will be a part 2 to my U.S. Government class, that covers the basics of the government as outlined in the Constitution. We will expand upon those topics, and add more depth. My 1st Government class is not a prerequisite, although please communicate with me before enrolling if you are unsure of the appropriateness of the class.

My goal is to inspire my learners to be historic investigators! More than just a social studies class- I will include opportunities for students to improve critical thinking skills and literacy abilities with reading and writing activities. As global citizens, I want my learners to explore more than what a textbook would provide, and to be able to interpret information from multiple sources and viewpoints.

Each week, enrolled learners will receive a student guide/overview with key vocabulary and suggested activities.

I will provide multiple types of learning opportunities, including teacher led interactive and "fun" lectures, discussions, videos (and clips), games, slides, research opportunities, and possibly other interactive activities. Some of the course content will be taught in a "flipped classroom" approach, involving the learners doing some reading and/or research before our live class. I will also suggest optional activities for learners, to allow for hands-on and active learning experiences. Many of the optional activities will allow for differentiation and individualization, to meet the needs of learners and expectations of parents.

Tentative Schedule:
Week 1: Introduction to class & Review of U.S. Government
Week 2: Forms & Types of Governments
Week 3: Constitutional Principles of the U.S. Government
Week 4: Ideology and Political Parties
Week 5: Political Participation in the U.S.
Week 6: Supreme Court Landmark Cases (Intro)
Week 7: Supreme Court Landmark Cases (Digging deeper)

I believe learning should be fun, and also provide challenge opportunities for those who need it. I love when learners participate, ask questions, and become involved in their learning process! I prefer learners to have cameras on, but I do not require it and I understand that some learners feel more comfortable with cameras off.

Most importantly, I want all learners (and their adults) to be 100% happy with the quality of this class. Any concerns, questions, or ideas for improvement should be communicated so that adjustments can be made accordingly. Outside of the scheduled face-to-face time, all other activities will be considered suggestions and be optional. Obviously, the more a learner engages with the course content, the more they will get out of the course. Communication between learners and parents, regarding the expectations for optional things, is important!

*If interested in this class, but cannot find a section that meets your scheduling needs, please contact me directly to discuss options. Also, if you require discount to be able to enroll your learner, please send me a message.
