In this class we will reveal the incredible lives of Witold Pilecki (a member of the Polish Underground who intentionally got himself sent to Auschwitz so he could organize a resistance movement there and write a report about conditions inside the camp before making a daring escape), Lyudmila Pavlichenko (a Ukrainian sniper with over 300 confirmed kills, making her the most successful female sniper in history), and Simo Hayha (a Finnish farmer turned sniper who miraculously alluded death while amassing a record of 505 confirmed kills in 100 days, making him the deadliest sniper who ever lived).
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn about the lives and accomplishments of three heroes in the context of the fighting on three different fronts (the eastern front, the western front, and the Finno-Russian front). Students will see the power of the individual by looking at the remarkable impact of these three soldiers.

Utah Certificado de Docencia en Estudios Sociales/Historia
I am a licensed history teacher in the state of Utah. I have my degree in Social Studies Education from Utah State University where I researched and presented in conferences on the topics of teaching history through story telling and best teaching practices for civic education. I taught history in a brick and mortar high school for a semester before switching to outschool.
I learned about Witold Pilecki while living in Poland and visiting Auschwitz. I did a whole project on the life and accomplishments of Lyudmila Pavlichenko in college. I learned about Simo Hayha during a class I took in college about WWII in Europe from a professor who specialized in modern European history and conflict.
