Experiencia de clase

This is an interactive lecture-style class. I will be using a Google slide presentation to help me present the information and will give many opportunities for students to ask questions and share their experiences.

Ablism is defined as any form of discrimination based on a person's disability. In this class students will learn what ablism looks like in our society, how it can be damaging to people with disabilities and how they can help to fight ablism. This class is ideal for both children with disabilities and their peers.

Under the sources section, I have included a link that gives a more detailed summary of what ablism is for parents who are unfamiliar with the term or want to make sure that this class is on the same page as what they want their kids to learn.

Topics that will be coved:
~ What is ableism?
~ Examples of ablism
~ The dangers of ablism
~Ways to help

This class is inclusive which means that students of all abilities are welcome. If your student needs any accommodation please let me know and we will work together to ensure the best possible class experience.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am autistic and have spent the last 10 years of my life working with autistic children as well as children with others. disabilities in various capacities. I have been a pre-school teacher, a teacher's aid working one on one and in small groups with children who need extra help, a tutor, an in-home caregiver for a child with severe disabilities, and a community support worker for autistic tweens and teens. I also have an associate's degree in special education.

In January 2020 I began leading social groups for autistic children on Outschool and now have many different age groups and options ranging from ages 3 to 18. I also teach several classes about autism and sensory issues all of which have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents and students alike. I have spent a lot of time learning about autism and how autistic tend to view the issues that will be discussed in this class. If you have any questions or concerns about my qualifications please message me or read the reviews of some of my others classes about autism.

Additionally, I am an advocate in my community, and work to make the world more accessible to everyone whenever I can. This currently includes working in my church to make our kids and youth programs possible and educating medical professionals on autism when needed. In the past, it has included going to IEPs with families I know and even advocating for access to more health services at an adorable cost for students at the college I was attending at the time.
