Experiencia de clase

In this class students will learn about the foundational elements of geometry through brief lectures and interactive lessons. An interactive notebook will be created by each student to keep as a future resource. Classroom activities will include:

~ Short lectures with PowerPoint slideshows
~ Completion of a page of notes in an interactive notebook
~ Games or activities to check for comprehension
~ Use of the whiteboard function to practice creating and identifying geometric figures
~ Complete drawings that use the figures discussed in class

Topics and activities will include:
Week 1: Lines
~ Lecture and notes about lines, rays, line segments, and parallel, perpendicular, and intersecting lines
~ Practice identifying these elements through games I will share on my screen on IXL and Sheppard Software
~ Take turns drawing the different figures with the whiteboard feature
~ Discuss and draw examples of these figures that can be used in our town map project

Week 2: Classifying and Measuring Angles
~ Lecture and notes about measuring and classifying angles as acute, right, obtuse, and straight
~ Play a virtual board game that requires classifying angles
~ Practice drawing angles to quiz each other on the whiteboard feature
~ Measure and draw angles on an IXL game I will share on my screen
~ Discuss and draw examples of these figures that can be used in our town map project

Week 3: Classifying Triangles by Angle Measure and Side Length
~ Lecture and notes about classifying angles as acute, right, obtuse, scalene, isosceles, and scalene
~ Play a virtual board game that requires classifying triangles
~ Complete a search of a picture with hidden triangles
~ Classify triangles through a screen share activity on IXL
~ Discuss and draw examples of these figures that can be used in our town map project

Week 4: Classifying Quadrilaterals
~ Lecture and notes about classifying quadrilaterals as square, rectangle, trapezoid, parallelogram, or rhombus
~ Complete a sorting activity with regular and irregular quadrilateral examples
~ Draw examples of quadrilaterals for each other and categorize them
~ Discuss and draw examples of these figures that can be used in our town map project

Week 5: Town Map Project Overview and Planning
~ Discuss project expectations
~ Draw and discuss examples of the different ways the geometric elements can be used in the project
~ Share our ideas and begin drawing the map
This is the only week there will be homework for students to complete. We will present our maps to each other in the final class.

Week 6: Town Map Project Share

During this final meeting students will all be encouraged to share their town map designs and explain how they implemented each geometric element. If students do not want to share they will not be required to. All students are encouraged to send me a photo of their finished maps so I can give feedback.

For the remaining time in the final class we will play a review game of Geometry Jeopardy! and discuss what we learned in class and what everyone liked and didn't like.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will be able to identify, classify, and draw the elemental figures in planar geometry including lines, triangles, and quadrilaterals.
