Are you looking for a way to cultivate your child's reading skills while at the same time having fun? Come join a laugh out loud book club with this amazing series by author Andy Griffiths. This course will provide students an engaging opportunity in an online book club over the course of 4 meetings. We will be reading The 13 Story Treehouse by Andy Griffiths to help your learner gain confidence with reading comprehension, making connections, and character development. To make those reading skills fun and engaging, your learner will partake in some fun hands-on activities that correlate with parts of the story. We will start off reading Chapter 1 and 2 to get the club started and discuss the first chapter as a class. We will meet 3 times thereafter to interact with other learners to discuss the book. Oral language as well as social skills are an added bonus to the reading skills we'll work in when discussing the book. As a highly experienced teacher and librarian, I will be asking guided reading questions and students will be encouraged to share their thoughts and feelings about the story. Students will need to read 3 or 4 chapters in between classes. Each meeting we will discuss the chapters read and have time to do activities related to the book. Your child will have opportunities to write, respond, and share through the book club. I love to incorporate some games to help strengthen comprehension skills and make for a positive reading experience! Challenge activities will be given throughout the book club that will allow students to spend time outside of class creating. This is an optional activity should you or your child wish to take on the challenge. Examples of challenges may be building something as related to the plot, drawing parts of the story, or writing activities centered around the story. Schedule: Class 1 - Teacher will read Chapter 1 and 2 and begin book club Class 2 - Discuss Chapter 3, 4, and 5 Class 3 - Discuss Chapter 6, 7, and 8, and 9 Class 4 - Discuss Chapter 10, 11, 12, 13 Please note if you do not see a time conducive to your schedule, please send me a message and I will work my best to try to set up a section that works. I also have done this book club 2 times a week for 2 weeks, rather than 1 time a week for 4 weeks. Please let me know if your prefer that schedule. Additionally, if you are part of a homeschool group or learning co-op, or just would like a section with your child and students you all know, I am more than happy to set up a private section at no additional cost. Just send me a message if interested. So come and have a great time reading, laughing, and connecting with others!

Otros detalles
Orientación para padres
The book is recommended for children ages 6 - 10 per the publisher's recommendation. I always recommend to read or learn about the book prior to enrolling your child in the class to see if you approve of the book. Some students are sensitive to the word "stupid" and that does appear in the story.
Also you may want to view a sample of the text to gauge the readability for your child. Students will need to read 3 or 4 chapters in between class sessions. Reading can be independently done by the child or he/she may need guidance to read the book.
Lista de útiles escolares
A copy of The 13 Story Treehouse by Andy Griffiths - hard copy or digital will work for the purpose of this class. Students will need paper, writing utensils, and art supplies (like crayons or markers, etc) for the class. Optional: If your child would like to use materials such as blocks, Legos, playdough, or other building supplies that is also an option. We will work on creating things from time to time and having some materials on hand may be good but not required! =)
Recursos externos
Los estudiantes no necesitarán utilizar ninguna aplicación o sitio web más allá de las herramientas estándar de Outschool.
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Reading is an experience that I love to make engaging and fun for all students and through this book club, we'll work to create a positive learning experience using one of my favorite books. Drawing on my expertise as a licensed PK - 6 teacher with a Master's in Reading and a National Board Certification, I always work to create and design literacy activities that will help develop and strengthen your child's reading and writing skills. Additionally, my work as an elementary school librarian has allowed me to connect with many students across the grade levels and develop a deep understanding how to make books a great experience for all!
