* To help accommodate many families, this class is scheduled to meet either once a week for 11 weeks or for 3x a week for 3 and 1/2 weeks. Choose whichever format which works best for you :)

This class is a great introduction to the history of the United States of America! Do you want to learn more about how every state in United States of America is different? The United States of America's map did not always look the same as it does today. It has changed and evolved over the past 240+ years. These changes have helped to shape the United States of America as we know it today. These changes have also helped to create the uniqueness that applies to each state in the union.

During this 10-week course we will explore, discuss, write, and draw some interesting facts about each state in the United States:
-state history
-how that state got their name
-state capitals
-state symbols
-state foods
-state animals
-national parks
-points of interest
And SO much more!

The states will be taught in the order of their official date of admission after the ratification of the constitution in 1787 (the official dates set by Act of Congress). *We will be focusing on 5 different states in each class session (see schedule below).

Classes will be taught through discussion with the help of graphic organizers (which will be provided before the start of each class) and using many pictures (through a PowerPoint).

This class is interactive and not just a lecture :). Students will be given the opportunity to ask questions, take notes (in the form of words or pictures), and express their thoughts about each state throughout each lesson. At the end of each lesson learners will be given the opportunity to share their knowledge with a fun "check for understanding quiz". They will also be able to share their notes/drawings, what they learned, and what they found interesting about each state.

Students only need an interest in the United States of America, maps, nature, animals, geology and/or geography to enjoy this class. Learners will be encouraged to draw and/or write facts about each state that is being taught (a handout will be provided for each class session for guidance with this). Drawing and/or writing about each state will help to enhance learner's knowledge of the states that they are learning about however, this is not required.

** It will be encouraged for learners to staple their handouts together each week so that by the end of this course they will have all 50 states in their own little "book" to look back on for reference. A cover for this "book" will be shared during our first-class session together. **

*Sibling discount available upon request*

See the Syllabus to learn more about what will be taught during each lesson :).

I was a public elementary school teacher for over 17 years. I have a BA in elementary education with a minor in history. I love teaching all subjects but most of all, I love teaching young learners about the world around them. I have a great love for history, nature and the great outdoors. My parents were both educators (after them both having jobs working on farms, and in state parks) and instilled in me at a young age the love for traveling, the love for learning, the love for nature, and appreciating history. I love sharing these same principles with others!
