2-4 horas por semana. Learners will have homework after each class, mainly practice on concepts discussed in class and sometimes preview problems (clearly labeled) for upcoming classes to give them a chance to think over new ideas with plenty of time. To free up session time for interactive activities, learners may be assigned to watch informational videos. Some of these will be optional, covering ideas they may or may not remember from previous classes.Evaluación
Informal formative assessment through discussion comments and homework corrections will be continuous throughout the unit. Shortly after the last meeting, parents will receive a progress report with all scores and a calculated numerical and letter grade. Parents can also get a copy of a draft progress report with work completed up to that point, upon request.Calificación

We will use the Mathematics Vision Project Geometry/Secondary Math 1 module on Transformations and Symmetry as an outline and problem source, and occasionally various OpenStax math textbooks for additional problems and as a reference. Activities will follow approximately this schedule: Week 1: Introduction to rigid transformations, GeoGebra, and background information review — 6.1 and other materials Week 2: Slopes of perpendicular lines and working backwards — 6.2 and 6.3 Week 3: Writing and applying formal definitions and examining figures for symmetry — 6.4 and 6.5 Week 4: Properties of regular polygons and special quadrilaterals — 6.6 and 6.7 For further details, see the learning goals list. During group activities, learners will interact with the teacher and each other through verbal discussion and slides designed to be written on and organize our thinking, not just looked at, within the Explain Everything whiteboard platform. (Learners can either annotate from within Zoom, which will be reset as we move between slides but preserved in the session recording, or request the Explain Everything link, which will let them write directly on the board that will be exported into downloadable class notes. Learners' contributions will be checked for appropriateness, safety, and accuracy before being exported.) Consistent regular attendance is expected. I will not remove learners from class for missing group activity sessions, but they must take responsibility for catching up, by watching the session video and doing all work. I will be available to help if they find anything tricky. Learners will generally be more successful who are already familiar with these previous concepts: plotting points on a coordinate grid, the Pythagorean Theorem, parallel and perpendicular lines, linear equation solving, writing equations for lines, slope of lines, angle measurement in degrees, connections between fractions and division, regular polygons, and types of quadrilaterals. Needing to brush up, typical of back-to-school time after the summer slide, is OK! If you aren't sure, please take the quiz at https://app.teachermade.com/begin/13c412cd-3846-4d17-985a-a31f1567f051, then send me a message through Outschool Messenger and we will go over your results.
Metas de aprendizaje
Learners will define and understand rigid transformations (translations, reflections, and rotations).
Learners will be aware of and use the relationship between pairs of slopes of lines and whether those lines are parallel or perpendicular.

GeoGebra Classroom is a free site running the open-source GeoGebra dynamic geometry software in such a way as to sync to the cloud and allow the teacher to view learners' work. Accounts which allow learners to sign back in with full access to previous work are offered, but not required. Learners need to give a name either when entering the class code or when setting up their accounts so that I can find their work in the teacher interface; if they wish, such as for added privacy, a nickname or pseudonym is OK.
TeacherMade is a site designed for school use which allows learners to access worksheets, tutorials, and practice problems. If they wish, such as for added privacy, learners can sign in using a nickname or pseudonym.
Explain Everything is a shared whiteboard, similar to Google Jamboard but more flexible. Learners do not need an account and can access the board to write on it through a link. Learners who do not specifically want to write on the board don’t need to access Explain Everything at all – I will share the screen in Zoom and they can watch.
Lista de útiles escolares
Scratch paper and pencils, or a whiteboard and markers. Learners will need to use GeoGebra and Miro interactively during Zoom sessions, either by using a single device such as a desktop or laptop computer which can load both Zoom and a web site simultaneously or by using a second device (such as a phone for the Zoom meeting and a Chromebook for the webapp). Learners who are preparing for college admissions are advised to keep a portfolio (digital or on paper) of major assignments and 2-3 different types of problems, fully worked, per routine assignment; the materials of the student's choice should be available for this from the beginning of class. Examples include a Google Drive or Dropbox folder, LibreOffice software (Writer and Math), a binder and hole-punched printer paper or a hole puncher, etc. If you may apply to multiple colleges, consider that a digital portfolio is easier to duplicate, and can be printed if a physical copy is wanted. For this class, learners can use GeoGebra exclusively as their graphing calculator. Learners with future plans involving taking exams like the SATs should consider getting and beginning to use a calculator approved for those exams as soon as possible.
