Instruction will be tailored to the developmental needs of the student. Lessons will focus upon the Seven T's of Brass performance: 1) Tone (sound quality) 2) Tonguing (articulation) 3) Timing (rhythm) 4) Tuning (intonation) 5) Technique (coordinated facility/dexterity) 6) Trajectory (building of range, phrasing, and musicality) 7) Tenacity (staying with it until it stays with you) Lessons generally follow this pattern: 1) concept review, 2) playing the assignment from the previous lesson, 3) demonstration of a new skill by the instructor, 4) guided development of new the new skill, and 5) assignment of personal practice to reinforce and acquire the new skill. Lessons are taught interactively with the teacher modeling skills, student mimicking the teacher's model, call-and-response, reinforcement of previous material. The student will play 60+% of the time. Some video clips and still pictures may be used to give aural/visual examples for the student to better understand the concepts. PREREQUISITE: The student should have completed the equivalent of band method books 1 & 2 and finished the 8th grade (see below).
Metas de aprendizaje
The goal of one-on-one lessons is to steadily increase the achievement of the Seven T's of Brass performance as listed above. This comes through a variety of exercises, short melodies, and longer pieces of music recommended by the instructor, the student's school band director, and/or the student's own choice.
The PREREQUISITES ensure the student is ready for high school level studies. Students who do not meet these criteria are encouraged to contact the teacher for options.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am a musician and educator from Lubbock, Texas. I have been teaching school music, private lessons for over three decades. Music has allowed me to travel to 40 states and 3 foreign countries. I have performed in diverse settings, including the YMCA in Tel Aviv, during an earthquake aftershock near San Francisco, the Mesa Amphitheater in Arizona, the Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas, the Long Beach Arena in California, Circus Circus Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, and a pre-school in Key West, Florida.
My greatest joy as a teacher is seeing students achieve great things that previously seemed out-of-reach. Those accomplishments are built upon solid fundamentals systematically introduced in classes and one-on-one lessons. To date, all of my private students who have auditioned for Texas All-Region Bands have placed. I invite you to enroll your young musician in one of the small-group classes or private lessons offered through Outschool.com.
