Sources Used for “Time Travelers: Exploring U.S. History for Young Historians!”
In designing this course, I have carefully selected a variety of primary and secondary sources that provide multiple perspectives on historical events. My goal is to ensure historical accuracy while fostering critical thinking and inclusivity. Below are the sources used to inform the curriculum:
General U.S. History Sources:
• Zinn, Howard. A Young People’s History of the United States. A student-friendly adaptation of A People’s History of the United States, which includes perspectives from marginalized groups.
• Hakim, Joy. A History of Us (Oxford University Press). A well-researched and engaging series that presents multiple viewpoints.
• National Museum of American History (Smithsonian Institution) – Provides educational resources and primary documents.
Week 2: The Wampanoag & English Settlers – A Shared History
• Silverman, David J. This Land Is Their Land: The Wampanoag Indians, Plymouth Colony, and the Troubled History of Thanksgiving. A well-researched account that centers Indigenous perspectives.
• Wampanoag Nation website – Official resources from the Wampanoag community to ensure accurate representation.
• Primary Source: Edward Winslow’s 1621 Letter – A firsthand account of the harvest feast written by an English settler.
• Native Knowledge 360° (Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian) – Provides Indigenous perspectives on history.
