Time for German 103 - Beginner to Intermediate World Languages Course: Version 1 - Reading Focus

Follow Hansel, Gretel and 'Frechel' in this carefully crafted, innovative course. This is the ideal follow up course for graduates of 'Time for German 101 and 102' or other beginners who now wish to take their German to the next level. While still incorporating many of the fun activities from the previous courses, in 'Time for German '103' there will be a strong focus on reading, sentence building and communication. This course is therefore more academic than '101' and '102' and to get the most out of it, students will need to read and study the vocabulary and texts before and after the class.

The previous 'Time for German' courses laid the foundation of further German study by building students German vocabulary to over 700 words whilst also introducing German grammar. In each lesson, students will read 3 texts by Hansel, Gretel and 'Frechel' which will build the children's vocabulary and their understanding of how the German language works. Subsequent lessons will reinforce learning from previous lessons within the texts, while also consistently introducing new vocabulary and sentence structures. This way, the children will be submerged in German language, structure and grammar and will be able to produce their own vocabulary about their own lives, using the structures as a guide.

A printable sheet containing all vocabulary for each lesson and the 3 texts will be provided in the classroom a few days before each lesson starts so that the learning can continue outside of the classroom. Throughout my many years experience of teaching German, students have often said that my lessons were 'easy', despite the ambitious learning objectives of the lessons. In my previous school, I was the co-operative learning specialist and school lead, employing creative learning strategies and techniques to make my lessons more engaging, fun and co-operative. Throughout the course, I will use fun slides and activities to engage the students and learners will also be able to practise conversations with each other. The students will be asked to apply the vocabulary and sentence structures to their own lives (taking into account online safety of course) and I will ask lots of questions to build up the student's knowledge into functional sentences. Here is a brief summary of the topics that will be taught in each week of the course:

Week 1 - Introduction

Week 2 - Describing People

Week 3 - Family 1

Week 4 - Family 2

Week 5 - Pets

Week 6 - Location

Week 7 - People and Work 1

Week 8 - People and Work 2

Week 9 - Adjectives and Comparing 1

Week 10 - Adjectives and Comparing 2

Week 11 - Food

Week 12 - Food and Drink

Week 13 - Because

Week 14 - In my Room

Week 15 - House and Rooms

Week 16 - Vacation

After the course, your child will have increased their German vocabulary by over 400 new words but more importantly, will be able to use the language, phrases and structures to play with and create their own sentences. Your child may then want to take 'Version 2' of this course which focuses on verbs.

Recommended course sequence:

1 - Time for German 101 (16 Lessons)
2 - Time for German 102 (16 Lessons)

Then you will be ready for the '103 Track'. It does not matter in which order you do the following courses but this is the order that they will take place on the same day and in the same time slot. Just make you you book onto the follow-up course and complete all 48 lessons in 103:

3 - Time for German 103 - Beginner to Intermediate World Languages Course: Version 1 - Reading Focus (16 Lessons)
3 - Time for German 103: Grimm German Grammar 1 - Rapunzel's Routine & Conjunctions (4 Lessons)
3 - Time for German 103: Grimm German Grammar 2 - Hansel and Gretel (4 Lessons)
3 - Time for German 103 - Beginner to Intermediate World Languages Course: Version 2 - Verb Focus (16 Lessons)
3 - Time for German 103: Grimm German Grammar 3 - Dornröschen and the Perfect Tense (4 Lessons)
3 - Time for German 103: Grimm German Grammar 4 - The Frog Prince (4 Lessons)

***New to Time for German?***
If you have not done one of my previous 'Time for German' courses but still have a good grasp of basic German, then this couse could still be for you. Three texts are provided each lesson. Hansel provides a simple text whereas Gretel's text is more advanced. Frechel's text is a bit cheeky - 'Frech' is cheeky in German. If you are willing to read the provided handouts and texts and you want to take your German to the next level, then this course could be for you. Please message me before enrolling and I will be able to advise whether '101', '102' or '103' would be suitable.

***Behaviour***
I have high expectations of behaviour. As an Outschool parent, I understand how frustrating it can be when one child spoils the lesson for the other children. I go over my expectations at the start of the lesson but my main rules are putting you hand up when you want to speak and not excessively playing with filters and emojis.

Metas de aprendizaje
