This is an important skill which will help learners see the passage of time and understand fractions. Learners will be shown how to read the time using an analog clock. We will discuss the different places that they can see analog clocks. They will be taught the difference between the long and short hand on the clock. They will understand what the time difference between each number is. It would be good for learners to practice skip counting by 5's before the class (5,10,15,20...etc). They will learn how to say the time in a variety of ways. You can bring a toy analog clock with moving hands to practice. The toy clock should have numbers (no Roman numerals please). Learners will practice setting time on their clocks. The learner may use a whiteboard or piece of paper to draw an analog clock and draw the hands to show the time the teacher announces. They can even print an analog clock without hands which can be found on Google.com. The teacher will choose volunteers to answer the questions in class. The teacher does not plan to put anyone on the spot. A child may send the answer directly to the teacher using the chat box. The students can show their favorite time piece as well for show & tell!

You can bring a toy analog clock with moving hands to practice. The toy clock should have numbers (no Roman numerals please). I find that the clocks that are not toys are harder for the learners to move the hands. If you don't have a toy clock, it's ok. There are other ways that the learner can participate. The learner can bring a whiteboard, marker and eraser to draw an anolog clock. Also, a pencil and paper can be used.
