In this one-time class, students will learn the steps of the process of the Scientific Method. The steps will be taught using powerpoint with discussion and student interaction to check for understanding. After the process is taught, students will view video clips of an episode of MythBusters. The students will write a hypothesis based on the myth from the episode, identify the variables, graph the data and write an analysis and conclusion. The teacher will guide the students in their learning allowing them to ask questions and discuss with other students. No previous experience or knowledge of the Scientific Method is required.

Metas de aprendizaje

Students will understand the process that guides all science investigation to ensure accuracy in investigation. Students will learn how to generate a hypothesis, identify variables, graph and analyze data and draw conclusions.

Hello Outschool families! My name is Kelly Cottrell and I am excited to have the opportunity to teach Science and Math lessons to your children. I have a degree in Biology and am a certified licensed teacher. I have over 20 years of teaching life, physical and earth science at middle school. In addition, I have tutored high school students in Chemistry, Physics, Algebra and ACT prep. I believe every child can learn and will learn and deserves to have a teacher that believes in them and has expectations for them. It is my job as their teacher to create engaging lessons, connect the learning to their lives and guide them in the learning process. When I'm not learning I love to play and watch all sports. I am a curious life-long learner and love to go on hikes and shop for amazing finds at antique stores.
