As this is an ongoing class, any “homework” is optional. There will be suggested reading material and writing prompts provided each week at the end of class if students want further practice in that genre. This work can be posted on the classroom page if they wish to request feedback from myself or their classmates.Experiencia de clase

This is an ongoing course designed to allow high school level writers to explore different themes and genres they may not otherwise be exposed to. Each month is broken down into narrow weekly themes. Every class will have a relevant flash fiction exercise (with provided writing prompts) and a voluntary peer feedback element. Creative writing is fluid, expressive, and often deeply personal. I am here to provide support and encouragement for students as they explore what kind of writer they want to be! The themes will be as follows: April: Week 1. Historical Fiction Week 2. Rural noir + Southern Crime Fiction Week 3. YA Realistic Fiction (Dialogue focus) Week 4. YA Romance May: Week 1. Dystopian Week 2. Magical Realism Week 3. Adventure/Fantasy Week 4. Urban Legends Week 5. Greek/Roman Mythology June: Week 1. Sci-fi (Aliens) Week 2. Monologue Week 3. Playwriting What a typical class will look like: -Hello/Student Introductions -Short lecture and explanation of the theme -15 minute themed flash fiction exercise -Opportunity to share work, get/give feedback, and ask questions -Themed prompts + recommendations provided after class for further writing inspiration and independent reading. Sharing with the group is entirely optional. Alternatively, work can be shared with the teacher only, or posted on the classroom page.
Metas de aprendizaje
This class is designed to give young writers the freedom to create whilst challenging them with genres that may be outside of their normal repertoire. It is a fun class meant to exercise the brain and provide inspiration.
Students will be encouraged to share their work. A peer workshop environment gives a writer the advantage of a variety of viewpoints and grows their confidence in their own abilities.

Orientación para padres
I cannot predict what writing students will bring or create in class, but students will be advised to share work that is YA appropriate. Writers crafting stories with more sensitive material can share this privately with me for feedback, rather than publicly in the classroom.
Lista de útiles escolares
Students should take this class on a device that has access to a camera, microphone, and word processing application. If students wish to write by hand, they will need a journal or notebook and writing instrument. Any reading material will be provided by the teacher.
