Experiencia de clase

The writers room is term used for TV writers who collaborate and write episodes of your favorite television shows. The idea is to get a group of writers together (in a room) and they all contribute to the formation and creation of the journey of characters throughout a season of a TV show.

This class will take the concept of a TV writer’s room but tailor it to focus on writing an original screenplay (movie script). The screenplay will be entirely of the creation of the learners in the class and will be done collaboratively. I will facilitate, help organize ideas, and transcribe in real time what they come up with. I want the learners to see the screenplay come to life and be written as they dictate what they want to happen next. This will allow them to become familiar with how screenplays are formatted and the thought process behind creating a screenplay as compared to writing a novel.

In this class learners will learn how to work together, compromise on story ideas, understand how screenplays are formatted, learn story telling tactics and strategies, be creative, think outside of the box and hopefully gain an appreciation for storytelling.

This is an ongoing class, and you are welcome to jump in whenever you would like at any time. Every week we will continue to build on the story, and everyone will be encouraged to contribute and add on ideas. The story belongs to the entire class, and we will work together to shape it and further develop it by working together to tell the story.
Here is an example of what to expect during the first 4 weeks of class:

Week of Sept. 25 – How to format a screenplay
Week of Oct. 2 – Brainstorm story ideas
Week of Oct. 9 – Begin Act 1
Week of Oct. 16 – Dive into character development

Once we begin writing the story, every week at the beginning of the class we will have a table read and will read what we have written thus far, to remind everyone what has happened. Then we will spend the majority of the class time writing together and adding to the story. The last 5-7 minutes of class will be used as a Q and A time or time to talk about specific writing elements.

No experience required. Just come ready to contribute ideas, help create dialogue and have fun telling a story.
