The Wild Robot Book Study – Interactive & Engaging!

In this 7-week book study, students will read The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. We’ll discuss the story, analyze characters, write an opinion paragraph, and strengthen reading comprehension through engaging activities.

Homework
1-2 hours per week. Please see the attached file upon enrollment for all the homework assignments. Each week your child will be responsible for reading selected pages from The Wild Robot, completing a simple comprehension activity as they read, and writing a friendly letter retelling the details of what they read. In the last two weeks of class, your child will complete research and write a persuasive paragraph that will be shared in class. You'll also find Rabbit Trail Ideas which are science activities you can do outside of class to extend the learning. These activities are optional.

🤖 Calling all robot lovers! Join us as we dive into The Wild Robot and explore the adventures, challenges, and lessons that Roz, the robot, encounters on her island journey.

What to Expect:
📖 Weekly Reading Assignments – Students will read assigned chapters before class.
📝 Comprehension & Journaling – Each week, students will complete a comprehension task and a journal entry before class.
💡 Engaging Discussions – We’ll analyze characters, themes, and key events through class discussions.
🌍 Explore “Rabbit Trails” of Learning – Each week, we’ll dive into mini-lessons on topics Roz experiences in the story.
✏️ Final Writing Project – In the last week, students will write and share a persuasive paragraph.

📚 Materials Needed:
A copy of The Wild Robot by Peter Brown (purchase or borrow from the library).
Weekly assignments (provided upon enrollment).

🚀 This 7-week book study will deepen comprehension, critical thinking, and writing skills—all while exploring an unforgettable story!

Introduction
 We will introduce ourselves and the book. We
will draw our own robots and talk about the features we’d
like to have in a robot.

Animal Adaptations
 We will discuss last week’s reading
assignment, share our journal entries, and learn about
animal adaptations.

Gardening
 We will discuss last week’s reading
assignment, share our journal entries, and learn about
gardening by “planting” a bean seed to watch it grow.

assignment, share our comic strips, and build a bear den.

Other Details

Learning Needs
The Wild Robot has a Lexile score of 740. Students do not have to be able to read independently since all reading will be done at home.
Parental Guidance
This book deals with the use of weapons and the death of animals by nature. You will need to be available to supervise during week 5. I need your assistance in blindfolding your child and supervising using a kid-friendly knife.
