This class is perfect for students who are curious about the animal kingdom’s most unusual creatures. Through engaging lessons, students will dive into the fascinating worlds of unique mammals like the long-beaked echidna, proboscis monkey, hammer-headed bat, Cuban solenodon, and more! Each lesson discusses two or three species and includes a 10-15 minute video lecture of me with slides full of amazing animal facts and fascinating photos. Additionally, lessons are supplemented with guided notes sheets to help students follow along. As a teacher, I am enthusiastic, funny (at least I think so...), and engaging. I designed this course to be both fascinating and informative. Chances are, your student already knows quite a bit of animals and my goal is to make sure that every student is challenged and will learn new things. My students know that I love teaching them big words and I have a knack for making complex scientific concepts easy to understand. Throughout the lesson, I do make note of concepts that are a little more complex for more advanced students to explore. But this course isn't just about learning fun facts. As we learn about these animals, we will also explore how unique features are often adaptations that help the animal survive and how just like animals, what makes us weird can be what makes us wonderful. Join us on this wild adventure and become an expert on some of the weirdest mammals on Earth!
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will identify and describe the unique biological characteristics and adaptations of eight unusual mammals, understanding how these adaptations help them survive.
Students will explore the habitats, behaviors, and conservation efforts related to each featured mammal while developing an appreciation for the biodiversity of the natural world.
